Just one point separated these two sides at the end of the regular campaign, with Charlton finishing fourth to ensure they get to play the second leg of the semi-final on home turf.
But the way these two ended the season could hardly be any more different, as the Addicks won four of their last five matches while Wanderers lost three in a row.
Having been in contention for automatic promotion for a large period, Wycombe will be disappointed to have to go through the play-offs in their bid to reach the Championship and the confidence of Mike Dodds’ squad may well be fragile.
It is a complete contrast for his opposite number, Nathan Jones, who has seen his side lose just two of their last 15 fixtures to storm into the play-offs in top form.
Charlton have won three of their last four away assignments and, notably, the most recent success on the road was a 4-0 thumping of Wycombe in April at Adams Park.
Sunday's trip will present a tougher challenge, you would expect, but the Addicks are playing at a much higher level than Wycombe and the fact Wanderers have lost their last two home contests is a real concern.
With the return leg taking place at The Valley, a stadium Charlton are unbeaten at since mid-December, the former Premier League club will know just how big a win could be on Sunday and they look capable of gaining an advantage in the tie.
Wycombe could find themselves under pressure during this clash and there may be plenty of tackles flying in, increasing the chance of some cards being dished out.
One player that is worth a look to go in the book is Xavier Simons, who joined Wanderers on loan from Hull City in January and has since been shown three yellows and one red.
Although avoiding the referee's gaze in his last six appearances, the pressure ramps up when it comes to the play-offs and Simons could have his name taken.
