Wrexham vs. Grimsby Predictions: Best bets for the National League play-off in Wales

The National League play-offs have reached the semi-final stage with Wrexham taking on Grimsby in Wales on Saturday lunchtime. Here at BettingOdds.com we’ve previewed the game that can be seen live on BT Sport 1 at 12:30pm, and have provided you with our best bets for the action.
Just three weeks ago, Wrexham thrashed eventual National League champions Stockport 3-0, with many of their fans starting to dream about a League and Cup double. However, since then The Dragons have been beaten on the final day of the league campaign 3-0 by Dagenham & Redbridge, as well as going down 1-0 in the FA Trophy final to Bromley.
Both Wrexham and Grimsby are now just two games away from a return to the Football League after the Mariners scored a 120th minute winner against Notts County on Monday evening. Paul Hirst’s side will be looking to ruin Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Hollywood script on Saturday and they should not be underestimated after showing great spirit in recent weeks.
Wrexham vs Grimsby Tips
The first of two selections we have been drawn towards on Saturday lunchtime is for Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer to get himself on the scoresheet. Since joining the club from AFC Wimbledon at the back end of January, Palmer has scored an impressive 15 goals for his new employers.
Those 15 goals have come in just 21 league appearances for Wrexham, with Palmer scoring some crucial goals in their quest to reach the Football League. Top scorer Paul Mullin has 26 league goals for Wrexham this season and has scored exactly the same as Palmer, since the latter arrived in Wales in January. This therefore, gives appeal to the 6/4 on offer with bet365 for Palmer to get on the scoresheet against Grimsby, and we do not think there should be as big a difference in price between himself and Paul Mullin to score anytime at 20/21 with the same firm.
Wrexham are odds-on to win this game, but we do think that quotes of 4/7 with Paddy Power look a little short on them being victorious inside 90 minutes. We’ve therefore opted for a punt on a Correct Score selection and have taken a lean towards the 8/1 on offer with William Hill for Wrexham to win the match 2-1.
The Welsh side have been really strong at home in the second half of the campaign and have not tasted defeat in the league at the Racecourse ground since all the way back in November in a 2-0 loss to Yeovil. Since then Wrexham have won 12 and drawn 12 of their last 14 in front of their own fans and that home advantage could well prove pivotal here.
However, Grimsby should certainly not be disregarded here and they will head west with hope of slaying the Dragons in their own backyard. The visitors will have momentum after the nature of their win over Notts County and they can find the net here. All things considered, a 2-1 scoreline looks favourable here, and 8/1 with William Hill looks a respectable price.
