World Cup Group C: Argentina favourites to top Group C

World Cup Qatar 2022 begins on the 20th November and here at BettingOdds.com we will have unrivalled coverage of this huge sporting occasion including team/group previews, match betting prediction and props, bet-builders, and ante post markets. Here we preview Group C...
Team Profiles:
Argentina
To qualify: 1/12
To win Group A: 1/2
To win World Cup: 8/1
World Cup appearances: 17
Best performance: Winners (1978, 1986)
Head Coach: Lionel Scaloni
Star player: Lionel Messi (PSG)
Golden Boot favourite: Lionel Messi (PSG) - 86 Int. goals - 14/1
Our verdict: Argentina are currently on an incredible run of 32 games unbeaten under the guidance of manager Lionel Scaloni. The two-time winners of the competition have had their odds slashed from 12/1 back in 2021, all the way to 8/1 to lift the trophy this winter and it's easy to why when you look at their form.
They should have no problems in advancing from what looks like a rather easy group on paper. Their first game will be against Saudi Arabia, followed by Mexico and Poland, but at 8/1 the South Americans look very short in comparison to other sides at the head of the betting.
Team Profiles:
Poland
To qualify: 10/11
To win Group C: 5/1
To win World Cup: 150/1
World Cup appearances: 8
Best performance: Third Place (1974, 1982)
Head Coach: Czeslaw Michniewicz
Star player: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
Golden Boot favourite: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 76 Int. goals - 50/1
Our verdict: In Group C it looks like a toss-up between Poland and Mexico for who will advance to the knockout stages along with favourites Argentina. The bookmakers certainly agree and make both sides 10/11 to qualify from group C.
At the prices, we would be not siding with Poland who were thumped 6-1 in the Nations League in June by Belgium.
Team Profiles:
Mexico
To qualify: 10/11
To win Group C: 5/1
To win World Cup: 150/1
World Cup appearances: 17
Best performance: Quarter-Finals (1970, 1986)
Head Coach: Andres Guardardo
Star player: Hirving Lozano (Napoli)
Golden Boot favourite: Raul Jimenez (Wolves) - 30 Int. goals - 100/1
Our verdict: Mexico has advanced from the group stages and they have been eliminated at the Round of 16 at the last seven World Cup tournaments dating back to 1994! Mexico's key game in the group is the first against Poland. Should they secure an opening game victory, they will be confident of getting three points against Saudi Arabia and advancing to the knockout stages. With Raul Jimenez, Jesus Corona, and Hirving Lozano, Mexico have quality in the final third that can see them through Group C.
Team Profiles:
Saudi Arabia
To qualify: 7/1
To win Group C: 33/1
To win World Cup: 750/1
World Cup appearances: 6
Best performance: Round of 16 (1994)
Head Coach: Herve Renard
Star player: Salman Al-Faraj (Al-Hilal)
Golden Boot favourite: Firas Al-Buraikan (Al-Fateh) - 6 Int. goals - 250/1
Our verdict: Saudi Arabia face an uphill battle from the off in Qatar with their opening game being against Argentina. We really struggle to see them winning any of their group matches and just as the bookmakers suggest with their odds, Saudi Arabia look likely to finish bottom of Group C.
