The Hammers suffered a 1-0 loss in Germany against Freiburg on Thursday night in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie and, with the return match to come next midweek, this clash with the Clarets could prove more awkward than expected for David Moyes' side.
Burnley sit 19th in the standings, a full 11 points adrift of safety, and they will make this trip to the capital on the back of picking up just two draws and no wins from their last nine top-flight games.
Team News
West Ham suffered no fresh injury concerns against Freiburg, leaving Maxwel Cornet as the only confirmed absentee with his thigh issue, while Nayef Aguerd remains a doubt after he missed the trip to Germany.
Moyes did field a near first-choice starting XI in Europe during the week and it will be interesting to see if he rotates his line up for this one.
Burnley's list of absentees is more extensive with Jordan Beyer, Luca Koleosho, Lyle Foster, Nathan Redmond and Aaron Ramsey all ruled out through injury, although key midfielder Josh Brownhill is available again following suspension.
Predicted XIs:
West Ham (4-2-3-1): Areola; .Johnson, Mavropanos, Zouma, Emerson; Phillips, Alvarez; Kudus, Ward-Prowse, Bowen; Antonio
Burnley (4-4-2): Trafford; Assignon, O'Shea, Esteve Taylor; Gudmundsson, Brownhill, Berge, Odobert; Fofana, Amdouni
West Ham vs Burnley Tips
The Clarets look almost certain to be relegated after taking just two points from the last 27 available and they have lost nine of their 13 top-flight away games this season, including each of their last four.
Only Sheffield United have scored fewer league goals than Burnley's total of 25 and Vincent Kompany has not seen his side net in any of their last three matches, all of which ended in defeat to Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.
This is a match the Irons should win but, after running up seven goals in their last two league games against Brentford and Everton, this may be a cagier affair, especially if Moyes makes changes in the final third.
Four of the last six meetings between these two sides have yielded no more than two goals and anyone seeking a high-scoring contest may need to look elsewhere, but ultimately West Ham should have enough about them to claim all three points.
With this match coming right in the middle of their Europa League tie with Freiburg, West Ham may not be at their best come Sunday as they go in search of a third-straight Premier League win.
It will be interesting to see if Moyes prioritises Europe over domestic commitments and, if he does, then he may opt to rest some of his key players, such as Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus.
However, the Hammers are also firmly in the battle for a top-six finish in the league and even if Moyes does rotate, he will still expect his side to have enough to see off Burnley.
