Coventry City make the short trip to West Bromwich Albion on Friday evening as the heat turns up on the Championship play-off race. The game can be seen live on Sky Sports kicking off at 8pm and we’ve got Anthony Eadson in the tipping hot seat with two selections that he likes the look of.

Heading into the weekend, five points separate West Brom in fifth and Coventry in ninth, although the Baggies do have an 11-point gap between themselves and Southampton in fourth. With potentially only two play-off spaces now looking up for grabs with Leicester, Leeds, Ipswich and Southampton looking very likely to be the top-4, this is a key game for both sides as we approach the final quarter of the campaign.
West Brom are the favourites to come out on top at The Hawthorns and can be sided with at 11/10 with most betting sites. The draw is chalked-up at 13/5, while a win for Mark Robins’ side is on show at 23/10.
West Brom vs Coventry Tips
For my first selection for Friday Night Football, I’ve backed Coventry’s Callum O’Hare to be fouled 2+ times in the match at even money with Sky Bet. In December 2022 O’Hare sustained a cruciate ligament injury that would see him sidelined for almost 11 months.
Since his return to first team football in November he has made 15 starts for the club across all formats and has been fouled at least twice in 12 of those. This bet has cashed in the most recent seven consecutive league matches that the 25-year-old has started, and I’d have this selection price considerably shorter than the 1/1 that is available via the price boosts section on Sky Bet.
For my longshot of the evening, I’ve taken a punt on the hosts winning the game with Bobby Thomas being carded. West Brom have performed well against Friday’s opponent in the last few years, losing just one of their last eight matches against Coventry. In recent weeks The Baggies have lost just one of their last six which came against Southampton, and I think they can edge out Coventry who have lost seven matches on the road in the Championship this season.
Last season for Barnsley, Bobby Thomas was cautioned on seven occasions in League One. This time round for Coventry, he already has six yellows to his name, with four of those coming in away matches. The defender has given away eight fouls across his last eight league outings and combining him to be carded along with a West Brom win pays 15/2 with bet365.
