Author's Opinion
Wales’ journey to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 was one of the stories of the tournament as they became the first British side to reach a semi-final of a major tournament since England in 1996. Their preparation for this tournament however has been far from ideal with the future of Ryan Giggs still uncertain due to off the field affairs.
Former Dragons captain Ashley Williams described the situation as a “mess” and traditionally such a disruptive lead up to a tournament has hindered their chances. Rob Page will take control of the side for the summer and he will have a tough group to deal with in Italy, Turkey and Switzerland. Despite having some bright forwards in Gareth Bale, Dan James and Harry Wilson, I think Wales will fall short at the group stage. Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Neco Williams will all gain vital experience from the Euros, but their lack of experience at major tournaments could lead to defensive frailties from higher quality opponents.

Top Three Key Players
Gareth Bale, Tottenham/Real Madrid
In the second half of this Premier League we have started to see some of the Gareth Bale that we know and love as the Welsh wizard has regained form and fitness, putting in some solid performances for Spurs. On his latest outing Bale bagged himself a hat-trick, the eighth time he has done so in his career, and his goals and creativity will be vital if Wales are to have a successful summer.
Daniel James, Manchester United
23-year-old Daniel James put in a man of the match performance on his most recent start for Wales in a 1-0 win over Czech Republic where he scored the only of the game. Many United fans would have liked to have seen a little more from James this season and his gametime has been limited with just ten league starts. The pace that this young man has will be a weapon Wales will try to use in the summer and he’s one to watch out for in the shots on target market with Betfair usually pricing him above or around even money to land 1+ shot on target in most Manchester United matches.
Harry Wilson, Cardiff/Liverpool
Cardiff City fans were graced with one of the finest hat-tricks they are likely to see in a Bluebirds shirt. The three goals from Wilson, who is on loan from Liverpool, all came from outside the box with two of them being free-kicks. With 11 Championship assists to his name this campaign along with nine goals, his move to the Welsh side has been a positive one, although his long term future is still uncertain. One to look out for in the shots on target specials markets (shot on target from outside the box) would be our advice, although with Gareth Bale in the side he’ll still play second fiddle at free-kicks.
Young Gun
Ethan Ampadu, Sheffield United/Chelsea
He may be only 20 years of age but no player at Sheffield United has achieved a higher WhoScored.com rating than Ethan Amapdu this season at the time of writing. The Chelsea loanee can play in either central defence or central midfield and has his value rise over the course of the campaign. BetVictor are currently the only firm to have priced up the ‘young player of the tournament’ market, for which Amapadu can be backed at 50/1.
Wales’ Outright Odds at Euro 2021
Wales were the first British nation to advance to a semi-final of a major tournament since England in 1996 when they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016. This time round the Welsh can be backed at 150/1 to win the tournament, with only three teams in the betting currently a bigger price on bet365.
Wales’ Group Odds at Euro 2021
Wales have been drawn in Group A at Euro 2021, which includes Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. The best price currently available on them topping the group is 15/2 from Paddy Power, while they can be backed at 4/5 to qualify for the round of 16.
The Gaffer
At the time of writing Rob Page is currently in charge of the Welsh team due to Ryan Giggs being charged with assault. A previous manager of the Welsh under-21 side, Page has won four of his six games in charge of the seniors after being given the caretaker role last November.
