Tottenham vs. Man Utd Betting Tips: Two bets for North London encounter
Tottenham welcome Man Utd to London on Saturday evening in what should be an entertaining Premier League fixture, live on Sky Sports Main Event at 5.30pm.
These sides look set to be top-four rivals this season and Saturday’s match gives them a chance to strike an early blow, with Scott Thornton supplying his two best bets for the game.
Ange Postecoglou had to settle for a point in his inaugural game as Spurs boss but he will have been satisfied with how his team played.
They dominated the ball and created an abundance of chances away at Brentford. The approach was a departure from Tottenham’s style in recent years so the former Celtic boss would have been delighted that his team were able to have 70% possession so early in his tenure.
Man Utd won their opener against Wolves but they rode their luck on more than one occasion. They looked open at the back and there were gaping holes in their midfield.
Erik Ten Hag has a lot to ponder ahead of the trip to Spurs. The Red Devils struggled to create chances last season and that trend looks set to continue as long as Rasmus Hojlund is absent.
As well as Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo are also ruled out for the visitors due to injury. Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy Ndombele are the most notable absentees for Tottenham.
Tottenham vs Man Utd Tips
The first angle for our bet builder is shots. The two meetings between these sides last season saw an abundance of attempts and the signs point towards something similar this weekend.
Postecoglou’s first game in charge of Spurs saw them have 18 of the 29 shots in the match when they visited Brentford. Tottenham no longer have Harry Kane as the focal point of their attack after he joined Bayern Munich but his former teammates provided the goal threat in his absence.
These two were involved in a scintillating 2-2 draw at the back end of last season when Man Utd stormed to a 2-0 lead but Tottenham were able to claw it back. That match saw a whopping 35 shots: 18 for Spurs and 17 for United.
The encounter at Old Trafford saw even more shots with a total of 37. Ten Hag’s side looked far more convincing in that clash and peppered the opposition goal with 28 shots.
Both of these matches were well above the average of 25.29 shots for a Premier League last season.
Our second angle is match tackles. Both of these managers have a preference for ensuring their teams press high up the pitch and that should increase the tackle numbers here.
Tottenham’s game against Brentford saw 33 tackles, while Man Utd’s win over Wolves saw 41 tackles. Moreover, Tottenham’s last 10 matches have seen an average of 33.3 tackles per game. Man Utd’s matches have seen 33.4 over the same period.
For our longer odds bet, we are backing the same angles as the main bet. We are backing the tackles per team and increasing the shots required.
The last three meetings between these sides in London have averaged 37 tackles per game.
Spurs have had 19.67 and Man Utd have had 17.33, and the tackles required here have landed in all three matches.
Both the shots and tackles angles landed when these teams squared off in April.
