Study: The Most Reckless Players in the Premier League so far this season

The carnage of Tottenham vs Chelsea has left many of us thinking: who is the most reckless player in the Premier League so far this season? Well for those guessing Romero after his feisty performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, you’d be wrong, in fact, he’s probably one of the ‘cleaner’ defenders in the league with only seven fouls to his name this season.
We’ve created a points system to work out the most reckless players in the Premier League and it goes as follows.
- One point per foul made
- Two points per yellow card
- Five points per red card
(Players must have played 10+ games)
Adding all these totals together we’ve worked out who we deem to be the most ‘Reckless’ player in the Premier League.
Top Five Most Reckless Players in the Premier League
Name | Red Cards | Yellow Cards | fouls | red card total points | yellow card total points | foults total points | total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Alexis Mac Allister | 1 | 5 | 21 | 5 | 10 | 21 | 36 |
Destiny Udogie | 1 | 3 | 22 | 5 | 6 | 22 | 33 |
Lucas Paqueta | 0 | 5 | 20 | 0 | 10 | 20 | 30 |
Maverlous Nakamba | 0 | 4 | 21 | 0 | 8 | 21 | 29 |
Conor Gallagher | 0 | 1 | 21 | 0 | 2 | 21 | 23 |
Liverpool’s new boy Mac Allister has been ranked as the most reckless player according to our system with a whopping five yellows, one red card and 21 fouls in the league this season. This can mainly be attributed to him playing a deeper position for Jurgen Klopp and perhaps he isn’t adapted to that holding midfield role, nevertheless, he has definitely been causing some carnage in the centre of the pitch.
Top Five Least Reckless Players in the Premier League
Name | Red Cards | Yellow Cards | fouls | red card total points | yellow card total points | foults total points | total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Anthony Elanga | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
Ollie Watkins | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 2 |
Oleksandr Zinchenko | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 4 |
Micky van de Ven | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 4 |
Christian Eriksen | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 6 |
Ex-Man Utd Anthony Elanga has been ranked as the cleanest player in the Premier League. The Swedish international has only commited one foul in the Premier League this season despite playing 652 minutes for his new club. That one foul did not ledto a caution from the referee meaning he has a clean slate when it comes to bookings. Impressively Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko has only committed two fouls despite being a regular for the Arsenal squad but one of those has led to a yellow card meaning he is third in the list.
