Study: The most efficient players in the Premier League this season
There are certain players in the Premier League who seem to always be on the ball when they’re playing, for example, Joao Cancelo has racked up 3,070 touches in the league this season which is 580 more than anyone else so far, and there are also some players who don’t touch the ball as frequently, like Alexandre Lacazette who only has had 671 touches in the league this season.
All of this got us thinking, who is the most effective player on the pitch in the Premier League? Well, we’ve dived into the stats for you and have worked out who is averaging the fewest touches per goal, assist, and big chance created in the Premier League this season
Whilst he might be injured at the moment, we’ve found Jamie Vardy is unbelievably efficient this season. The Leicester striker is currently averaging a goal or assist every 28 touches. Despite his lack of playing time, Vardy has scored 10 goals and assisted twice this season, and with only 332 touches, you have to say it’s a seriously impressive record. Up next in the list for fewest touches per goal or assist is actually Leicester’s other striker Patson Daka who’s averaging a goal or assist every 38 touches.
On loan Dejan Kulusevski has made a stunning impact at Spurs so far and the stats certainly show that. The Sweden international is topping the chart for fewest touches per big chance created in the league and is also second in the list for fewest touches per assist. However, it’s another Leicester player that tops the list for the fewest touches per assist as Kelechi Iheanacho has recorded 5 assists with his 411 touches averaging out at 82 touches per assist!
