Sporting CP vs Man City Prediction, Odds and Lineups: 11/2 double featuring Haaland and Gyokeres

Manchester City will aim to bounce back from their unexpected Premier League loss to Bournemouth when they face Sporting CP in the Champions League tonight.

The spotlight will be on incoming Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim who will be looking to claim a statement win over Pep Guardiola ahead of his switch to the Premier League.

Man City may have sunk to shock back-to-back defeats for the first time since September 2023, but defender Josko Gvardiol once again proved his attacking potency over the weekend with a superb header, marking his third goal in the last eight matches and, notably, his eighth goal of 2024.

Gvardiol has particularly thrived on the road with his three strikes this season coming away to Newcastle, Wolves, and Bournemouth, while last term he netted against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, scored twice at Fulham, and found the net at Nottingham Forest.

The gallivanting defender therefore represents a tempting bet at 17/2 to add to his collection on Tuesday night, while he's out at 25/1 to open the scoring at Estádio José Alvalade.

Both are certainly appealing prices, but I've aired on the side of caution slightly here, by backing the 22-year-old at equally appealing odds of 43/20 to have a shot on target (SOT). Only Erling Haaland has had more SOT for Man City in the Premier League than Gvardiol, who has achieved this feat in six of his last eight games, while he also had a SOT in the draw against Inter Milan. It's a price well worth backing given the player's attacking prowess, eye for goal, and aerial ability.

Two showstopping strikers take to the field on Tuesday night looking to enhance their remarkable respective goal tallies. Erling Haaland (14) and Viktor Gyokeres (20) already have an eye-popping 34 goals between them this season - simply outstanding returns.

In the blink of an eye, Haaland has surged to 11 Premier League goals and has three to his name in the Champions League, including a brace in his last European outing against Sparta Prague.

However, Haaland's numbers are being eclipsed by former Coventry forward Gyokeres who is enjoying another sensational season at Sporting CP. Gyokeres, who scored 43 goals in 50 games last term, has already accumulated 20 goals in just 16 matches in 2024/25. 

The Swede is currently on a five-game scoring streak and warmed-up for Tuesday's clash with a four-goal haul in the 5-1 demolition of Estrela last Friday.

Haaland vs Gyokeres adds a delicious subplot to this game, with BetMGM offering odds of 11/2 for both strikers to find the back of the net.
