Sheffield Wednesday vs. Sunderland Betting Tips: Back The Black Cats on Friday evening
Friday Night football arrives from the Championship this week as Sheffield Wednesday take on Sunderland at Hillsborough. Our man Anthony Eadson is on hand to preview the game which can be seen on Sky Sports, along with providing us with his best bets.
Things are starting to look rather worrying for Sheffield Wednesday. They are the only side in the second-tier yet to record a win this season having gained promotion from League One in dramatic fashion via the play-offs in the previous campaign. The Owls have amassed a meager two points from a possible 24 points so far this term, with numerous betting sites pricing them odds-on at 10/11 to be relegated back to the the third-tier of English football.
Sunderland on the other hand sit 19 places above Friday’s opposition in the standings and will once again be hopeful of a play-off push like last season. Manager Tony Mowbray will be without several of his squad for the trip to South Yorkshire including Bradley Dack, Jay Matete, Corry Evans and Denis Cirkin.
Taking a look at the match result odds and the visitors have been chalked up the 11/8 favourites. The draw can be sided with at 23/10, while a much needed win for Sheffield Wednesday is on show at 21/10.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland Tips
Prior to their 1-0 defeat against Cardiff last weekend, Sunderland had won three consecutive Championship matches. That run included a 5-0 thumping of Southampton, along with away victories at QPR and Blackburn Rovers, both of which came with a 3-1 scoreline.
The atmosphere around Hillsborough at the moment is an unsavory one and at 11/8, I’m more than willing to take a punt on Sunderland taking the three points. The Black Cats have scored 11 goals across their last four league matches in comparison to just one from Xisco Munoz’s side.
The last two away wins for Sunderland have proved it isn’t just their home form that is strong when they have their large boisterous crowd behind them, and they can move up to fourth in the table with another win here.
I’ve also had a little tickle on Jack Clarke to score anytime and Jobe Bellingham to register Over 0.5 shots on target at 7/1 with bet365. No player in the league has netted more goals so far this season than Clarke, who along with a few others has five goals to his name. Wednesday have only kept one clean sheet this season and Clarke can have more joy in front of goal on Friday.
Jobe Bellingham has put in some impressive performances this season for Sunderland. The 18-year-old has recorded five shots on target across his last six matches and combining him with Clarke to score pays 7/1.
