Saudi Arabia vs. Mexico Betting Tips: Back Both Teams to Score at the Lusail Stadium
Saudi Arabia face Mexico on Wednesday evening as Group C at the World Cup in Qatar comes to a close. We’ve got Anthony Eadson on hand to provide us with his best bets for the game.
All is to play for in Group C as all four teams are still in with a chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the tournament. It was a dose of reality for Saudi Arabia after their win against Argentina, which they followed up with a 2-0 defeat to Poland in their second match.
Herve Renard’s men are third in the standings on three points heading into Wednesday, but qualification for the latter stages is still in their hands as victory over Mexico would guarantee them a spot in the last-16. Saudi Arabia have only ever progressed from the group stages once before in World Cup history having done so when reaching the last-16 in 1994.
Mexico made few mistakes in their match against Argentina but were punished in the second half when giving Lionel Messi too much space at the edge of the area. It’s now a difficult situation for Gerardo Morino’s side, who need to beat Saudi Arabia by a four-goal margin and still hope that Poland and Argentina play out a draw in the other Group C game.
Mexico have made it to the knockout stages at every World Cup since 1994 and taking a look at the match odds they are the 7/10 favourites to get the three points in their final group game. The draw can be backed at 3/1, while a win for Saudi Arabia is on show at 19/5.
Saudi Arabia vs Mexico Tips
- Both Teams to Score - 9/10 - Paddy Power
- Both Teams to Score in Both Halves - 16/1 - Paddy Power (Power Price)
Up until Monday it had felt like goal-fests had been rather hard to come by at the World Cup before Cameroon played out a 3-3 draw with Serbia, followed by Ghana beating South Korea 3-2. These final rounds of group fixtures, however, have the tendency to descend into chaos, with plenty of end-to-end action.
With both Mexico and Saudi Arabia having chances to qualify we think this could well be one of those games. There is no denying Mexico have more quality in their squad, but as shown against Argentina, Saudi Arabia have the ability to cause an upset and are a threat in-front of goal with players such as Salem Al-Dawsari. All things considered Paddy Power’s 9/10 looks too big a price here for both teams to score, with others such as BetVictor going just 4/6.
Continuing with the theme of overpriced goal-based selections we also like the look of Paddy Power and Betfair’s boosted 16/1 for both teams to score in both halves. Mexico have been poor in the final third so far, but with an opportunity to find their shooting boots against lower level opposition here, we feel the goals could flow. This bet is around 10/1 with most other firms so we’d advise Paddy Power or Betfair for their boosted offering here.
