You don’t have to like football to play Fantasy Premier League. 

Irritatingly, you don’t have to like football to be good at Fantasy Premier League.

And then it’s time to play, beat, and lose against your nearest and dearest in a custom-made league, and we all know the dorks who drone about it all season long, the maggots who drop off in week two and those gits who are just perpetually perfect at picking the most potent players.

We all know that Mohamed Salah was a rabid points machine last year (and the year before that….and the year before that), but the Egyptian King still comes at a price. The agony this time around may well be between electing either Haaland or Harry Kane to lead your frontline but good luck to that probably paltry defence if you bag both. We’ve instead taken a look at all of the participating players from last year that will be featuring in the Premier League again in 2022/23 and worked out the best footballers to choose based on Cost per point (CPP). 

BettingOdds.com has calculated that for the 2021/22 Fantasy Premier League season, the player with the lowest CPP was Liverpool defender Joël Matip who cost just £5.0 but earned 170 points across the season, meaning that he was one of only two players to achieve a Cost per point below 0.03 (0.0294). The other was Manchester City’s João Cancelo who gained 201 points from an initial price tag of £6.0, for a Cost per point of 0.0299. The top five was completed by Jarrod Bowen of  West Ham (Cost £6.5 Points 206 Cost per point 0.0316), Conor Coady of Wolverhampton Wanderers (Cost £4.5 Points 138 Cost per point 0.0326) and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (Cost £4.5 Points 135 Cost per point 0.0333).
