RB Leipzig vs. Celtic Betting Tips: Back Nkunku to find the net at the Red Bull Arena

Celtic travel to Germany to take on Red Bull Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. Here at BettingOdds.com, we’ve provided you with a preview for the game and two bets that we like the look of. 

Both of these sides are yet to secure a win in Group F of the Champions League with Red Bull Leipzig having lost on both occasions so far: a humiliating 4-1 home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk, before going down 2-0 after a strong showing at Real Madrid, where they could count themselves a little unlucky. 

Celtic were turned over 3-0 on home soil by Los Blancos in Matchday 1, but bounced back to earn a hard fought point away at Donetsk in a game that was played in Poland due to the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine. 

Marco Rose’s Leipzig gave out a 4-0 thumping at the weekend to Bochum with both Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner getting on the scoresheet. The pair should both start in attack for the German outfit against Celtic, however the trio of Konrad Laimer, Lukas Klostermann and Dani Olmo will all miss out through injury.

Celtic also have injury concerns of their own, particularly in defence with Cameron Carter-Vickers a doubt and Carl Starfelt a confirmed absentee due to a knee injury.

The first of two selections that we like the look of for this 5:45pm kick-off in Germany is for the home side to win the game by two goals or more, and we are therefore backing them with a -1 match handicap. This is currently best priced at 6/4 at the time of writing with Paddy Power, implying a 40% chance of this bet winning.

Leipzig have only tasted defeat four times in all competitions in front of their fans since the start of the 2021/2022 season. We feel the hosts have a bit of a point to prove after the embarrassing manner of their defeat in Matchday 1 to Shakhtar and it’s fair to say that they put in a much improved showing one week later when traveling to Real Madrid. 

Celtic have some key injuries for this game and we think the gap in quality between the top end of the Bundesliga and the Scottish Premiership will be shown here on Wednesday. Backing Leipzig with a -1 match handicap looks the wise play at 6/4, although we wouldn’t be advising taking anything shorter.

Besides our main play of the evening, we’ll also be taking a punt on Frenchman Christopher Nkunku getting himself on the scoresheet as well as having 2+ shots on target in the game. Marco Rose’s side possess the firepower to really trouble Celtic in this Champions League clash with Emil Forsberg, Dominik Szoboszlai, Timo Werner and Christopher set to start from the off.

The latter is the player we are targeting here after an impressive six goals in just eight Bundesliga appearances so far in the 2022/2023 campaign. The 24-year-old was also on target in the DFB Pokal at the back end of August.
