Rangers vs. Celtic Betting Tips: Best bets for Old Firm Clash at Ibrox
Rangers take on Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday lunchtime with the game being shown live on Sky Sports at 12:30pm. After a profitable week of tipping here on BettingOdds.com our man Anthony Eadson has provided us with two tips for the game which he thinks represent good value in the betting markets.
Rangers vs. Celtic Odds
Three of Mick Beale’s four losses as Rangers manager have arrived against Celtic this season and he will be aiming to abolish that record here in front of their own supporters.
The Hoops on the other hand are chasing down a record points tally and will not want to let their foot off the gas in an Old Firm clash. Ange Postecoglou has worked wonders with this squad this season and after dropping points in just three league matches since the start of the campaign, they are the slight favourites with the bookies to collect another three points here.
Rangers vs Celtic Tips
Celtic have very much had the upper hand over their bitter rivals this season and their first game after being crowned champions will take place at Ibrox with the latest renewal of the Old Firm derby.
The first selection I’m backing in Glasgow is, Celtic to win or draw and for there to be under 6.5 cards shown in the match. At the time of writing this is available at 17/20 with Unibet or BetUK via their Bet Builder feature.
Mick Beale has failed to win any of his four matches against Celtic since taking over as Rangers boss and has lost all of the last three. I don’t see this record changing on Saturday, especially considering Celtic are unbeaten in 27 league matches, winning an incredible 25 of those and drawing on just two occasions.
With Celtic already crowned Scottish Premiership winners I feel this Old Firm will have a little less bite about it than usual. I’m also expecting fewer cards to be shown than usual, especially considering referee Steven McLean will be the man in the middle this one.
16 officials have taken charge of Scottish top-flight matches this season and McLean ranks bottom for yellow cards with a measly average of 2.23 shown per game. That is well below the league average of 3.95 yellows per game and with this in mind I’ve taken a bit of Celtic Double Chance and Under 6.5 cards here at 17/20.
This by no means that I expect no cards to be shown in an Old Firm derby and one player I do like the look of in the ‘to be carded’ market is John Lundstram. No member of the Rangers squad has been shown more cards in the league this campaign than the former Sheffield United man with six yellows and one red to his name.
Lundstram was also shown a yellow card when the sides met at Ibrox in the league last season and also this term in the Scottish League Cup final back in February. Other betting sites such as BoyleSports 6/5 on this selection, with bet365 slightly bigger at 6/4. I’d therefore recommend the 3/1 offering that is available with LiveScoreBet, 10bet, or SkyBet.
