Premier League Goals Record Odds: Can Harry Kane surpass Alan Shearer?

Harry Kane has finally come alive under the tutorship of Tottenham manager Antonio Conte.
The England skipper has produced some exceptional displays in recent weeks, most prominently in the superb win at Man City and thrashings of Leeds and Everton.
Kane has found the back of the net five goals in his last four Premier League games - including two braces - meaning he’s hit double digits (10) in the league for the eighth consecutive season at Tottenham. An impressive feat.
He’s previously scored 20+ on five occasions, with another 20+ haul not completely out of the question this term should he continue his stellar recent form: he needs 10 more goals in 12 games.
Kane’s goalscoring spurt has once again raised the debate about whether the sharpshooter can go on to become the all-time Premier League top goalscorer; an honour which is currently held by the legendary Alan Shearer.
Below, we take a closer look at where Kane currently ranks in the overall goalscoring charts, how many more goals he needs to usurp Shearer, and what price you can back him to make history.

Where does Kane currently rank in the all-time chart?
Kane’s brace in Tottenham’s 5-0 hammering of Everton means he now has a hefty 176 goals in 270 Premier League games. As a result he shot up to 6th in the overall rankings, leapfrogging Thierry Henry.
“I feel like I’ve got plenty of years left in me, hopefully I can keep ticking off those names and helping the team with my goals,” Kane said after outscoring the Arsenal icon.
Kane is now hammering on the door of a spot in the top-five, with Frank Lampard just one goal above him on 177. Kane will therefore equal the haul of the Chelsea legend should he find the back of the net against Man Utd this weekend, while a brace will see him replace Lampard in the top-five.
Further afield, you’ll find the highest ranked foreign player Sergio Aguero on 184 goals, Andy Cole is a fraction ahead on 187, then there's Wayne Rooney second on the list with 208 goals.
However, it’s Alan Shearer who is miles ahead on a staggering 260 goals. Wow.
How many goals does Kane need to break the record?
Kane, on 176 goals to date, needs a whopping 84 just to draw level with Shearer. And 85 to break the record.
Let’s say Kane - who is 29 this summer - scores an impressive 10 more goals this season to take his tally up to 186. He’ll then need to average 18.75 goals in each of the next four seasons to break the record.
That definitely sounds achievable considering Kane’s remarkable consistency in front of goal since his breakthrough 2014/15 season under Mauricio Pochettino - see a breakdown of his Premier League goals below.
His ability to adapt throughout his career also puts him in a decent position, while he’s not afraid to mix it up with 38 of his goals coming with his ‘weaker’ left-foot and 27 with his head (Right Foot: 110, Other: 1).
Form, fitness, and health will of course combine to play a big factor, as will battling the inescapable Father Time.
A move to Man City would arguably bolster his chances of surpassing Shearer even more, although Spurs fans will hope he stays in north london for the foreseeable future, a club he’s thrived at as the main man.
