Norwich vs. Millwall Betting Tips: Back Sargent and Flemming to hit the target

Just one Championship fixture takes place on Sunday with Norwich City hosting Millwall at Carrow Road. Find below a preview of the game, along with two tips we think represent value in the betting markets.
Norwich have taken four points from a possible six so far in the second-tier. Their campaign began with a 2-1 home victory over Hull City, before they featured in the EFL game of the weekend last week as they played out a barnstorming 4-4 draw with Southampton.
David Wagner’s side did attempt less than half of the total shots that Saints let off in the game (31), but they followed that result up in midweek with a 1-0 away win at QPR in the Carabao Cup. Norwich sit sixth in the table at this early stage and will be without Grant Hanley, Borja Sainz, Jacob Sorenson and youngster Tony Springett for this clash.
It has not been a great start to the season for Milllwall who have failed to score in their last two matches. After missing out on the play-offs by the barest of margins on the final day, Millwall started the new term with a strong result, achieving a 1-0 away win at Middlesbrough.
However, an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to League One Reading followed in the Carabao Cup, before they conceded in added time to suffer a 1-0 loss to Bristol City in the Championship last weekend. Gary Rowett will be looking for a response here and will have Murray Wallace and George Saville available to start in East Anglia.
Norwich vs Millwall Tips
Our headline tip on Sunday consists of two players each to record Over 0.5 Shots on Target. The first of those is Josh Sargent, who could play a key role for The Canaries in 2023/24 as they look to return to the promised land. The American striker was the top league scorer for Norwich last season with 13 and opened his account this time round with a goal against Southampton in Matchday 2.
When it comes to shots on target, Sargent boasted an average of just over one per game last season, recording 41 in 40 appearances at a rate of 1.2 per 90 minutes. When looking at his shots on target per 90 ratio for just home matches last season, that average rises to 1.5 per 90 minutes.
The other player in this 6/5 punt with bet365 is Zian Flemming. The 25-year-old was an absolute shot-machine last season letting off 131 attempts in 43 appearances. Only Joel Piroe (63), Viktor Gyokeres (59), Chuba Akpom (51) and Carlton Morris (45) recorded more shots on target than Zian Flemming (44) in the previous campaign. Norwich faced 11 shots on target against Southampton last weekend, which could be a good omen for Flemming landing at least one between the sticks on Sunday.
We’ll also be having a small wager on two players to be carded in the match. Referee Tony Harrington takes the whistle for this one and looking at his yellow card figures from last season, he averaged a healthy 4.00 per game in the Championship and 3.83 per game in the Premier League.
The first player we are targeting to find their way into Harrington’s book is Jake Cooper. The centre-half was joint-second in the yellow card charts last term, collecting 13 in total. Andy Yiadom of Reading was the only player with more to his name (14), and after a caution away at Middlesbrough on the opening weekend, Cooper could well be on a similar trajectory this season when it comes to card-collecting.
Ashley Barnes made the switch to Norwich from Burnley this summer. The Clarets topped the table last season, with Barnes collecting five yellows despite only starting 22 matches. Known for being a bit of a master of the dark arts, Barnes certainly isn’t afraid to put himself about and wind players up.
Barnes averaged 1.5 fouls per 90 minutes in 2022/23 and with new rules around players being punished for dissent, we feel he could be one who gets closer to double figures this season when it comes to yellow cards.
Combining both Jake Cooper and Ashley Barnes to be carded pays 10/1 with Paddy Power.
