Next Premier League Manager To Leave Odds: Frank Lampard the new favourite
The curtains have closed on the Premier League, for now, as attention rapidly switches to the 2022 World Cup. Yet, the six-week period between now and the top-flight’s Boxing Day restart could leave many managers feeling anxious about their futures, especially given the high-turnover so far this season, which has contained six different managerial changes to date.
Below we take a look at the latest movements in the next Premier League manager to leave odds...
Frank Lampard odds-on after a troubling period
Heading into the World Cup, it’s Frank Lampard who now finds himself in the unwanted position of being the odds-on favourite in the Premier League Sack Race following a wretched run of six defeats in eight matches in all competitions.
Lampard’s location at the summit of the betting market is a bit of a conundrum. On one hand, he remains a hugely popular figure with the majority of the Everton faithful: he’s passionate, to the point, and understands the club and the people.
However, at the same time, supporters have grown increasingly frustrated at the underwhelming results, which have left the Toffees one point above the drop zone. They’ve just come off the back of an untimely chastening week during which they lost to Leicester and then suffered heavy back-to-back defeats to Bournemouth in the league and cup. The 3-0 defeat over the weekend saw things boil over in the away end, which Lampard attempted to calm down.
Admittedly, despite the poor performances, it would come as a surprise if Everton made yet another managerial change, meaning the value could be elsewhere.
David Moyes feeling the heat
Firstly, there's no getting away from the fact that David Moyes has worked wonders at West Ham. This is a manager who propelled the club from the threat of relegation to 6th in the space of 18 months, then came agonisingly close to a Europa League final last season.
The Hammers are once again flying on the continent this term, winning all eight of their Europa League Conference qualifier and group stage matches.
Yet, their league form has been a cause of huge concern. No club has lost more Premier League matches so far this season - level with the Saints on nine losses - which leaves them 16th; just one point above the drop zone; having spent £150m in the summer.
Moyes is now the 4/1 second-favourite for the chop with Paddy Power and Betfair, and even shorter with BetVictor at 9/4.
You'd think the Scot has more than enough credit in the bank to survive this scare, yet he'll know that he'll need to shake his troops into action come the restart.
Graham Potter under pressure at Chelsea?
At 16/1 with Paddy Power - 12/1 elsewhere - you'll find Graham Potter, who only took charge of Chelsea two months ago.
Potter enjoyed a nine-game unbeaten start to life at the Bridge, but has since suffered four defeats in five matches, which as you can imagine has not gone down well at the club.
It would be great to see the Englishman given time to properly stamp his mark, however we all know that the dugout-span of a Chelsea manager is on the short side meaning his job is definitely one to keep an eye on.
What about Gary O'Neil and others?
At 5/1, it's definitely worth keeping an eye on Gary O'Neil, as he is after all still only the interim manager of Bournemouth.
He's now taken charge of 12 games since Scott Parker was sacked, collecting four wins, four draws and four defeats. Back-to-back wins over Everton last week have potentially boosted his chances of staying on, however there have been many reports that Marcelo Bielsa is in line for a shock appointment, so we'll have to wait and see.
Jesse Marsch ranges from between 9/1 and 14/1 in the market. The American was in all sorts of problems after a seven-game winless run, only to then beat Liverpool and Bournemouth. A subsequent cup exit at the hands of Wolves and a thrilling 4-3 defeat to Spurs, means he might not be out of the woods just yet.
Steve Cooper is a similar price, although he's just recently signed a new contract and inspired wins over Liverpool, Spurs, and Crystal Palace.
Elsewhere, Antonio Conte is available at 16/1 with BetVictor.
