Next Everton Manager Odds: Who bookmakers think could replace under-fire Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard succumbed to yet another wretched defeat as Everton were thumped 4-1 at home to Brighton on Tuesday night, which all but burst the sprinkling of optimism that briefly arose from the creditable point gained away to Man City.
The sorry statistics make for rotten reading for Lampard and Everton:
- 7 defeats in 10 games
- 1 win since 1st October
- 5 points from last 30 available
- 3 consecutive home defeats
- 19 defeats in 36 Premier League games in charge
For the large part, Lampard has been a popular figure amongst the majority of the Everton faithful whose venom has instead been directed at the hierarchal triumvirate of Farhad Moshiri, Bill Kenwright, and Denise Barrett-Baxendale.
Yet, Everton’s prolonged rotten run under Lampard twinned with the disastrous nature of the 4-1 thrashing against Brighton, means that it’s the manager’s future that is on a knife edge at Goodison Park.
Bookmakers have reacted to the latest setback by slicing Lampard’s odds from 3/1 to just 4/11 in the next Premier League manager to leave market, ahead the under-fire triad of David Moyes, Antonio Conte, and Brendan Rodgers.
With Lampard’s job plunged into even greater jeopardy, a number of bookmakers have turned the pressure gauge up a notch by pricing up the next Everton manager market, which we’ve taken a closer look at below to see who is in contention to replace Lampard should he leave The Toffees.
Bookmakers vary on the favourite in the betting. Paddy Power/Betfair have Wayne Rooney as the frontrunner, while Bet Victor have installed Sean Dyche as the leading contender.
Former Everton star Rooney was of course hotly linked with the job a year ago, but turned down an approach in order to see out the season with troubled Derby.
The Rams were ultimately relegated down to League One but Rooney had enhanced his reputation in management. He then decided to return to D.C.United in July, where he replaced Hernan Losada in the dugout. However, it’s not yet gone to plan so far: the 37-year-old has won just two of his 14 matches to date, with his side finishing rock-bottom of the Eastern Conference.
If Everton do still have Rooney on their radar, now could be a good time to get in touch as he's currently back in England where he was spotted watching his former assistant Liam Rosenior - now in charge of Hull City - orchestrate a 4-1 win over Wigan earlier this week.
As for Dyche, he remains out-of-work since leaving Burnley last April. He’s been linked with a plethora of posts since then - mostly recently Norwich City - but appears to be holding out for a Premier League job and would surely jump at the chance to manage Everton - who he has been linked to in the past - and can be backed at a 5/1 with Paddy Power.
Third in the betting at 8/1, Everton fans will find a familiar face in former boss Roberto Martinez, who is looking for a new job after leaving his post at Belgium.
Martinez spent three years in charge of Everton (2013 - 2016), during which they finished 5th, featured in the knockout stages of the Europa League, and reached two domestic cup semi-finals.
While Martinez himself could well be interested in a return to the Premier League, many Everton supporters would be less enthusiastic at the idea of a second spell given the heated fan protests in the lead up to the Spaniard’s exit six years ago.
Another former boss, David Moyes is next in the running at 12/1 with the Scot coming under-fire at West Ham in recent weeks following a five game losing streak.
Ex-Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa can also be backed at 12/1, ahead of Tofees legend Duncan Ferguson (16/1) who is still looking for his first permanent managerial job since leaving Goodison in July, and Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou (also 16/1).
Outsiders in the market include Kjetil Knutsen of Bodo/Glimt at 25/1, Denmark’s Kasper Hjulmand at 33/1, PSV’s Ruud Van Nistelrooy (33/1) and former Saints boss Ralph Hassenhuttl (50/1).
