Next Everton Manager Odds Update: Featuring Duncan Ferguson, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, and 40/1 shot

After a busy few days jam-packed with rumours and speculation, we've had an updated look at the next Everton manager market following Sunday’s sacking of Rafa Benitez…
Duncan Ferguson vs Wayne Rooney vs Frank Lampard
The betting points to a three-horse race between a trio of former Premier League stars with differing levels of managerial experience.
Ferguson is in pole position with the bookies’ at 7/4 after being named caretaker manager for a second time.
Back in 2019 his passion, commitment and character lifted both the team and the fanbase; starting off with a 3-1 win over Chelsea, followed by respectable league draws against Man Utd and Arsenal - and a penalty shoot-out defeat to Leicester in the League Cup - before Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded appointment.
Two years later and Big Dunc is back in temporary charge and ready to raise the roof once again.
In his first fixture he faces off against Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard at Goodison Park which promises to be a compelling clash. If he explodes out of the blocks with a win then the calls to hand him the job until the end of the season - or potentially longer - will only increase.
There’s then a two week gap before Everton's next game, a period in which the club will surely make a concrete decision on who will replace Benitez. You'd like to think so anyway.
Next in the betting we have Derby’s Wayne Rooney (3/1) and former Derby and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard (11/2) who are both reportedly set for interviews.
Ferguson knows the club inside out, is loved by the fanbase, and appears to be gunning for the full-time job, while the work of former Blue Rooney at Derby - in incredibly difficult circumstances - has been nothing short of exceptional. Given the toxicity engulfing the club right now, an appointment of either would no doubt be popular with most fans.
Outsider Lampard, out-of-work for a year, offers a certain level of excitement given his profile. He has an attacking mindset, the contacts book, and a proven track record of developing young players. There are, however, question marks over his defensive capabilities.
What’s the latest on Roberto Martinez?
Everton’s former gaffer emerged as the club’s No.1 target, but while he reportedly appeared keen for a return the Belgian FA weren’t impressed and blocked a move.
Odds-on earlier the week, the Belgium boss has drifted out to 10/1 and it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that a second-spell is on the horizon.
What about this 40/1 shot?
On Wednesday, Sky Sports claimed that Vitor Pereira was under consideration for the Everton manager’s job.
The Portuguese coach, who was interviewed by Everton in 2013 and linked in 2019, is currently available having left Fenerbahçe last month, while he's previously managed the likes of Porto, Olympiacos and 1860 Munich.
Achievements include winning consecutive titles with Porto, a league and cup double with Olympiacos, and the Chinese Super League and FA Cup with Shanghai SIPG.
The 53-year-old has now entered the betting at 40/1 (Bet Victor) and could well be one to keep an eye on over the next few days.
Anyone else?
Jose Mourinho (11/1) is happy at Roma, likewise Christophe Galtier (16/1) at Nice, and Graham Potter (20/1) at Brighton.
In terms of out-of-work managers, you can find Nuno Santo and Lucien Favre at 20/1 and 33/1 respectively, ex-Monaco manager Niko Kovac remains available at 25/1 after leaving the club earlier this month.
Forever linked with a move to the Premier League, Paulo Fonseca can be backed at 25/1, with Gennaro Gattuso a touch longer at 28/1.
