Next Everton Manager Odds: David Moyes hot favourite to replace Sean Dyche
Everton sacked Sean Dyche on Thursday after two years in charge. The decision came just hours before the club's FA Cup clash at home to Peterborough, which they won under the watch of interim duo Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman.
Former Everton manager David Moyes has emerged as the early frontrunner in the betting. Below, we explore the Scot and other key contenders who could take over following Dyche's exit.
Next Everton Manager Odds
David Moyes: 1/4
Could Everton's new owners turn to a familiar face? David Moyes has jettisoned into the hot odds-on favourite and there are rumours that he could even return this weekend.
Moyes famously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, transforming the club into a consistent Premier League force in the top-6 despite limited resources. While he didn’t win silverware at Goodison Park, his tenure is fondly remembered for its stability and overachievement.
After leaving Everton, Moyes managed Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and Sunderland before leading West Ham to European glory in his second spell.
West Ham parted ways with Moyes last summer, opting for Julen Lopetegui in a move that has since backfired. Now a free agent, Moyes would likely relish the chance to return to the Premier League and reunite with the club where he made his name.
Jose Mourinho: 9/1
Jose Mourinho has emerged as a surprise candidate to become the next Everton manager, according to the latest odds from Bet Victor, Betano, talkSPORT Bet, and Parimatch.
Currently managing Fenerbahçe in Turkey since June, Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premier League, where he previously led Chelsea (twice), Manchester United, and Tottenham.
"The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fenerbache is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition," Mourinho said. "So a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go. I don’t want to speak anymore about it. I want to speak about the game."
While Everton are not at the very bottom of the table, they sit precariously just one point above the relegation zone. Mourinho could well be the sort of blockbuster appointment that Everton's new owners, The Friedkin Group, are looking to make as they aim to revitalise the club’s fortunes. However, in truth an appointment mid-way through the season seems unlikely.

Paulo Fonseca: 12/1
Paulo Fonseca has long been linked with a move to the Premier League - including with Everton in the past - but a switch has never materialised.
The Portuguese coach is now back on the market after parting ways with AC Milan last week, following a brief stint of just 24 matches.
Fonseca’s managerial resume includes spells at Lille, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Porto.
Leighton Baines: 25/1
Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman were quickly appointed as interim managers, guiding Everton to a 2-0 victory over Peterborough in the FA Cup third round.
The duo may have another chance to prove themselves if the club’s managerial search extends into next week, with the Toffees set to face Aston Villa at home in the Premier League on Wednesday.
As it stands, Baines is a 25/1 outsider for the permanent role.
Edin Terzic: 33/1
Edin Terzic is an interesting contender to contemplate at huge odds of 33/1.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has had two spells in charge of Die Schwarzgelben. In his first stint, he lifted the DFB-Pokal and later came agonisingly close to winning the Bundesliga, missing out on the final day of the 2022/23 season. Last term, he memorably masterminded Dortmund to the Champions League final, where they fell short against Real Madrid.
Surprisingly, Terzic parted ways with Dortmund over the summer and has remained in the Job Centre ever since. His name has been linked to the West Ham vacancy - though that role seems destined for Graham Potter - and he’s also among the candidates for the Tottenham job, where he is currently priced at 10/3.
Selected Others
Former England caretaker manager Lee Carsley, who made nearly 200 appearances for Everton, is in the mix at 16/1. Speaking of former England managers, Sir Gareth Southgate has had his odds dropped from 40/1 to 16/1 in the betting.
Among out-of-work managers with Premier League experience, Steve Cooper stands at 25/1, alongside Erik ten Hag and Gary O’Neil.
