Newcastle vs Wolves Prediction and Betting Tips: Back Anthony Gordon to fire on Saturday

Newcastle host Wolves at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon. Both of these sides managed to secure spots in the FA Cup quarter-finals in midweek, but they come into this Premier League clash in contrasting form.

Newcastle needed penalties to get by Championship side Blackburn on Tuesday, with that 1-1 draw the fourth time in five games that they’ve failed to win.
Meanwhile, Wolves claimed a fourth win in five when they beat Brighton in midweek and they head to the North-east on a high.
Last weekend’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United took Wolves above Newcastle in the table, but can they follow that up with a win at St James’ Park?
Team news
Newcastle continue to be plagued by injury issues, with as many as six players set to miss out. Nick Pope is back in training in a boost for the Magpies, but he isn’t expected to be ready in time for this clash.
The hosts will have Martin Dubravka in goal once more and they are unlikely to make many changes after naming a strong side for their midweek visit to Blackburn.
Sven Botman missed that trip to Ewood Park through injury but there’s hope he’ll return in time for Saturday.
As for Wolves, they remain without Matheus Cunha, while they saw Hwang Hee-Chan pick up an injury against Brighton on Wednesday and he’s a doubt going into this clash.
- Newcastle: Dubravka; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Miley; Almiron, Isak, Gordon
- Wolves: Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Toti; Semedo, Lemina, Gomes, Ait-Nouri; Bellegarde, Sarabia; Neto
Newcastle vs Wolves Tips
Wolves head into this clash having won 1-0 in their last two matches, but we can expect more goals this weekend. Newcastle are on a high-scoring run, with both teams scoring in each of their last six.
The Magpies are also going through a tough time at home, having failed to win any of their last four at their own ground.
They’ve conceded twice in each of those matches, despite hosting Bournemouth, Luton and Nottingham Forest as well as Manchester City.
Wolves head north having won their last three away games in impressive fashion, securing a 2-0 victory at West Brom before scoring a combined six goals in visits to Tottenham and Chelsea.
Gary O’Neil’s side have been surprisingly entertaining this term, with their 26 league games seeing a combined 40 goals.
Newcastle have conceded twice in seven of their last eight in the league and this should be another high-scoring game.
Wolves are clinical when given opportunities and their threat on the counter could hurt the hosts.
Newcastle have defensive issues to deal with but they have an attacking presence of their own.
While Alexander Isak has gone a little cold, Anthony Gordon is turning into a real dependable option for the Magpies.
He has scored in two of their last three, while he has seven goals in 13 home league games this season.
At 7/4, I'll be snapping up William Hill's offering for the winger to get his name on the scoresheet once again this weekend.
