Newcastle vs Arsenal Predictions
The story of the weekend in the Premier League was Arsenal’s 5-1 drubbing of four-time reigning champions Manchester City, with Erling Haaland and Gabriel Magalhaes continuing their feud. This result moved Arsenal back to six points behind Liverpool, although the Reds have a game in hand and the chance to once more go nine clear.
The win marked a record Premier League unbeaten run under Mikael Arteta. The Gunner’s last defeat in the league came 14 games ago at St James Park – a ground they must overcome a two-goal deficit in on Wednesday night.
Newcastle were riding high after nine straight wins in all competitions – a run that included wins over Aston Villa, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. They were then stunned 1-4 at home to Bournemouth, before defeating Southampton 1-3. However, they were shocked again, losing 1-2 at home to Fulham in a feeble attacking performance. Still, Eddie Howe’s side are just two points off the top four and hold a healthy 2-0 lead heading into this game, with the chance to move closer to their first major trophy since 1955.
Eddie Howe faces a dilemma. With a 2-0 lead and home advantage, they are undoubtedly favourites to progress but will be wary of the undoubted Arsenal threat after their run of form. In the first leg, Howe sat back and frustrated the hosts. His side ran out 0-2 winners despite registering just 30% possession. It would not be surprising to see a similar approach on Wednesday, although the passionate Geordie crowd will spur their side forward.
When looking at the odds and date, the bookies remain coy on Newcastle’s attacking intent, so the value is there to be taken if they play more on the front foot. Sandro Tonali has been a revelation since coming back into the side, including scoring a brace in the quarter-final win against Brentford. The Italian has had a shot in his last 13 starts, so looks like a healthy price for another one on Wednesday, despite Newcastle’s early 0-2 lead.
Newcastle are averaging 2.10 yellows per game this season and are likely to get a yellow card as they cling on.

Arsenal should attack Newcastle from minute one and make it a nervy experience for the expectant home crowd. The Gunners are averaging 14.49 shots per 90, as well as having 23 in the reverse leg. Their opponents are also averaging 8.51 goal kicks per game – Newcastle had 13 in the first leg.
Newcastle opponents are averaging 13.4 shots per game, with Newcastle having 7.48 goal kicks per game. With Arsenal chasing the game, expect an onslaught on the host’s goal and Arsenal to put up similar shot/goal kick numbers as they did in the first game.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Team News
On the injury front, Eddie Howe seemed pessimistic about the prospect of Joelinton being fit, so Sean Longstaff may be required. Other than sweating on the fitness of the bustling Brazilian, Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles remain out.
Not much has changed for Arsenal in terms of injury issues. Ben White, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain absent.
