Newcastle vs. Arsenal Betting Tips: Back Odegaard to hit the target at odds-against
Newcastle face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday as The Gunners look to keep their faint hopes of lifting the title alive. Anthony Eadson is on hand with his best bets for the game.
Not many people would have predicted that Newcastle and Arsenal would be third and second in the league table with just a handful of games left this season. The Magpies can cement their place in the top-four with a positive result on Sunday and will be buoyed by the fact that they have only lost once in front of their own fans in the league this season.
Arsenal ended a run of four league games without a win on Tuesday with a comfortable 3-1 win over strugglers Chelsea. Heading into the weekend, Arsenal are a point behind City in the table, although they have played a game more than Pep’s side. Man City play Leeds on Saturday afternoon with the gap predicted to be extended to four points by the time Arsenal take on Newcastle on Sunday.
Newcastle vs Arsenal Tips
Martin Odegaard has been outstanding for Arsenal this season and is second favourite in the PFA Player of the Year market (11/2), behind Erling Haaland (1/20). It’s the Shots on Target Market, where I’m siding with Odegaard this week, with a very generous looking 6/5 on show with bet365 for him to register Over 0.5 in the match.
Only Gabriel Martinelli (15), has scored more league goals for Arsenal this season than Odegaard (14). The former Real Madrid-man also ranks first for the Gunners when it comes to shots, with 86 let off throughout the course of this campaign.
Odegaard is a player who has the potential to rack up the attempts, as shown when recording 11 against Bournemouth in March. The Norwegian has recorded six or more attempts on three occasions this season and when it comes to hitting the target he has done so at least once in eight of his last ten matches in the league. One of those matches in that 10 game period that he failed to register one was away at Manchester City and with odds-against on show with bet365, I’m more than happy to have him on side to make it 9 in the last 11 for this bet on Sunday.
I’ve also had a punt on Joelinton to be carded and both teams to score in the match, available at 17/4 via the Bet Builder feature with Paddy Power or Betfair.
At the start of the season we highlighted on our Twitter timeline how Joelinton was priced at 66/1 with Unibet to pick up the most cards in the league this season and as we approach the final furlong he’s right up there, leading the way, along with Joao Palhinha of Fulham.
The pair have picked up 12 cautions each this season with Joelinton collecting his dozen in just 29 appearances! The big Brazilian was booked against Southampton midweek and it would be no surprise to see another here.
Arsenal rank second in the Premier League for BTTS this season with 62% of their matches featuring both teams finding the net. I’m expecting a high scoring contest at St James’ and with both teams scoring in five of Newcastle’s last six league games it looks a good prospect to land again as part of a double with Joelinton to be carded.
