New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys: Week 1 Predictions, Tips and Odds for Sunday Night Football

It’s a pivotal season for the Dallas Cowboys, who are aiming to not only put together another fine campaign, but make a deep playoff run after several years of disappointing postseason exits.
The journey begins on Sunday Night Football when they face off against the New York Giants, a surprise playoff team a season ago that beefed up the roster this offseason in hopes of challenging Dallas and the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.
New York is at home in this Week 1 clash and an upset win would be an impressive way to start the year, but it won’t be easy against a talented Cowboys squad.
Here are the betting odds for the SNF Week 1 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.
The Giants re-signed quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason after a career year and now he needs to keep on that trajectory in order to push New York into realistic contender status.
While Jones has mobility, this is not an ideal matchup as the Cowboys have one of the most ferocious pass-rushing groups in the NFL, led by superstar Micah Parsons.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a down year in 2022 but look for him to bounce back this season, which should begin with a solid showing against the Giants.
Prop Bet Odds and Pick: Giants TE Darren Waller First Touchdown Scorer (11/1)
The Giants are an underdog to score the first touchdown in this game, but if they do find the end zone first, this feels like great value.
Waller has struggled with injuries the past couple of seasons but is one of the more talented tight ends in the NFL when healthy. (UPDATE: Waller injured his hamstring in practice on Friday and is listed as questionable for the game.) At 6-foot-6, he represents a fantastic red zone target for Daniel Jones, and no longer has the likes of Davante Adams siphoning away all the goal-line targets.
The Cowboys have a pair of really good cornerbacks in Tre’Von Diggs and Stephon Gilmore. The Giants, meanwhile, have major question marks at wide receiver.
Waller will likely have the best matchup in the red zone and Jones would be smart to look for him. New York would love to hand the ball to Saquon Barkley near the goal-line to get its points, but that’s not always reality depending on down-and-distance.
At 11/1 odds from Bet365, Darren Waller to score the first touchdown in the Cowboys-Giants game looks like solid value.
New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys Prediction
The Giants were a nice story last season but benefited from a lot of luck. They ran it back this offseason, hoping Daniel Jones can take another step forward. While he’s improved in recent years, it’s doubtful he becomes a star.
While Dak Prescott gets more scrutiny, he is the superior quarterback in this matchup. The Cowboys also have the better overall roster on both sides of the ball.
The Giants have the home field advantage and the better coaching staff, so should be able to hang around in this matchup, but in the end Dallas will have enough firepower to claim the win and cover the spread.
Prediction: Cowboys 27, Giants 20
