Multiple bookmakers suspend betting on Tottenham appointing Antonio Conte as their new manager
Multiple bookmakers have now suspended the betting on Antonio Conte becoming the next Tottenham manager as the club moves closer to securing Jose Mourinho’s successor.
The Portuguese coach was sacked nearly seven weeks ago in the week leading up to the League Cup final.
Interim boss Ryan Mason was placed at the helm for the Wembley spectacle along with the club’s remaining six games of the Premier League season.
A plethora of managers have been linked with the North London club in what has proved to be a rollercoaster of a market which has featured an abundance of frontrunners, including Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, and Simone Inzaghi.
However, despite a move for former boss Mauricio Pochettino looking likely as recently as a few days ago, PSG’s reluctance to let the Argentine leave means Spurs appear set to name Conte as their new boss.
The likes of Bet Victor and William Hill have closed the market, while Boylesports have the Italian priced at just 1/33 to return to the Premier League with the Lilywhites.
Ubiquitous journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted:
Tottenham are pushing to reach an agreement with Antonio Conte. He’s tempted by #THFC job - but no final decision yet. 🇮🇹

Negotiations still ongoing with his agents about salary, new signings, staff [Spurs are not willing to allow him to bring more than four staff members]. ⚪️
Conte wasn’t previously considered as a realistic candidate as he was manager of Inter Milan who would have demanded a big buy out clause.
However, the managerial rumour mill began to churn last week after the Italian decided to leave the club because they are planning to sell a number of players this summer as part of their cost-cutting measures.
If all goes to plan, Conte’s appointment will draw comparisons with the appointment of Mourinho.
However, this one feels different. While Mourinho’s powers appear to have waned in recent years, Conte is in his prime.
The 51-year-old previously spent two seasons in England at Chelsea, where he won both the Premier League and FA Cup.
He’s since led Inter Milan to Serie A glory, meaning he’s now racked up five league titles in his last seven seasons managing at club level.
While he'll undoubtedly make a certain set of demands, if the club and manager can come to an agreement then Tottenham’s future suddenly looks very bright.
It’s also being reported that Fabio Paratici is set to join Tottenham as Sporting Director.
Paratici, who worked with Conte at Juventus between 2011 and 2014, spent 11 years at the Old Lady where he undertook various roles during an extremely successful period in which the club won nine straight Serie A titles.
Meanwhile, Conte’s former club Inter have unveiled Simone Inzaghi as their new manager on a two-year deal.
