Premier League Betting: The most profitable & unprofitable teams this season

Starting the Premier League season in the middle of a global pandemic was always going to spring up a few surprises. It’s been an eventful first half of the season and here at BettingOdds.com we’ve put together a list of the most profitable and unprofitable teams this season.
The results are based on a £10 win stake on the team in question and we have also included the return on investment for each team (£10). One huge away win can often swing these profit and loss tables massively and that is worth bearing in mind when looking at the results so far.
1st - Leicester City +£172.60- ROI 91%
The Foxes top the charts as the most profitable team so far this term. Brendan Rodgers' side sit first in the league table after their first 19 games. Leicester have won 12 games, but it’s their notable 5-2 win at the Etihad on September 27 that has amassed the majority of their profit this time out. Bet365 had the Foxes priced at 17/2 to beat Manchester City that day, with that being the biggest priced upset so far in the 2020/2021 season.
2nd - Aston Villa +£150.20 - ROI 100%
After Aston Villa narrowly escaped relegation last season, few would have predicted that they would be spending the first half of this campaign in the top half of the table. A 7-2 home win over Liverpool will forever go down as one of the greatest results in Premier League history with the win alone for Dean Smith’s side being priced at 6/1. Aston Villa’s ROI figure of 100% may be greater than that of Leicester who have generated more profit, however that is due to Villa having played considerably less games in 15.
3rd - Everton +£102.50 - ROI 60%
The Toffees got off to a flyer this season, with a win on the opening weekend away at Spurs priced at 3/1, before three more consecutive victories. Everton sit sixth in the table just five points behind Manchester United with a game in hand. If Don Carlo can put together a good run in the second half of the season their profit could rise even further.
4th - West Ham +£58.60 - ROI 31%
West Ham have quietly gone about their business and will be happy with their 32 points from their opening 19 fixtures. David Moyes' side have four wins on the road this term with the highlight being a 3-0 romping of Leicester at the King Power where they were priced at 7/2 for the outright win.
5th - Crystal Palace +£44.30 - ROI 23%
Roy Hodgson's side were the most profitable team in the 2018/2019 season, thanks to an 18/1 victory at the Etihad thanks to an Andros Townsend wonder strike. A win at Old Trafford in the second game of the season (8/1), is the largest contributor to the Eagles profit this season where you to place £10 on them to win every game.
6th - Tottenham +£25.20 - ROI 14%
It’s been a season of fine margins for Spurs. Late goals conceded, most notably against Liverpool and West Ham, have stopped Mourinho’s side claiming as many points as he would have liked this term. Their 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford at the start of October will have been particularly sweet for the former United boss. Spurs could be backed at 5/2 for the win that day, while the correct score was a whopping 150/1
7th - Southampton +£10.60 - ROI 6%
Ralph Hassenhuttl has continued to receive the plaudits this season with a consistent level of performance. Defensive solidity and a high press have been paramount to their success in the first half of the season which sees the Saints come out with a £10.60 profit.
8th - Manchester United +£10.20 - ROI 6%
At the time of writing, Manchester United currently sit second in the Premier League and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves some credit. In terms of punting profitability United are yet to beat a ‘big-six’ side this season and as a result have not yielded as much profit as one may have thought.
9th - Wolves +£1.50 - ROI 1%
Nuno’s Santo’s side have not hit the heights of last season and have suffered further due to the absence of Raul Jimenez through injury. A home victory over Chelsea in December at 4/1 is the biggest price triumph of their campaign so far for the side from the Black Country.
10th - Burnley -£8.00 - ROI -5%
Moving into the unprofitable teams so far this season and the first of those is Burnley. The Clarets would have been heading for a fairly heavy loss this season in our profitability rankings, however a 7/1 away win at Arsenal last month lifts them up to the 10th.
11th - Leeds -£17.20 - ROI -10%
After an impressive showing in the first quarter, Leeds have come under some criticism of late due to their high volume of goals conceded. Wins at Everton and Aston Villa stand out on the road for Marcelo Bielsa’s men, although neither of those victories were priced at greater than 3/1.
12th- Arsenal -£17.60 - ROI -9%
Another manager who has faced criticism in the first half of the campaign is Mikel Arteta although slow progress has been made in recent weeks with five games unbeaten for the Gunners. A 3-1 win over rivals Chelsea at the Emirates in December stands out as their biggest priced victory at 4/1 with bet365.
13th - Newcastle -£21.00 - ROI -12%
Newcastle have now scored just once in their last seven games in all competitions. Steve Bruce should be looking over his shoulder in the second half of the season with plenty of teams around him starting to pick up points.
14th - Manchester City -£31.40 - ROI -19%
Manchester City failed to win five of their first eight Premier League games this term and for that reason they sit down in 14th when it comes to being the most profitable team to bet on. Things have changed rapidly though now at the Etihad and with five straight wins and nine games unbeaten, Pep Guardiola’s side are now just 4/7 to win their fifth Premier League title.
15th - Liverpool -£34.20 - ROI -19%
Surprised to see Jurgen Klopp’s team down in 15th in this table, don’t be. The Reds have totalled a staggering 18 points fewer than they had after 18 games last season. A decrease on last season’s point tally was always expected due to the high levels they had set, although few would have thought Liverpool would have failed to win nine of their first 18 games this term.
16th - Chelsea -£69.50 - ROI -37%
The pressure is building on Frank Lampard after spending the most money in Europe this summer and a string of poor results. With just eight wins from their opening 19 league fixtures and no wins over ‘big-six’ sides this term it’s -£69.50 should you have placed £10 on them to win each game this season.
17th - Fulham -£87.00 - ROI -51%
Hovering just above the relegation zone is somewhere Fulham will hope to be come the end of the season, with the Cottagers currently sitting in 18th place after spending the first half of the season in the drop zone. Their only win on the road this season, which came at Leicester, was priced at 5/1 and is one of only two victories in total, with the other coming at home to West Brom
18th - Brighton -£94.30 - ROI -50%
Graham Potter has not been able to turn draws into wins at all this season, with eight stalemates and just three victories from 19 games. All three of those victories have come on the road, and with just one victory at the Amex in 2020, Brighton need to improve their home form drastically.
19th - West Brom -£112.00 - ROI -59%
Sam Allardyce’s arrival has given hope to Baggies fans who looked to have little chance of survival this season. West Brom were available to be backed at 5/1 for the win prior to their games with Wolves last weekend which finished 3-2 to Allardyce’s men. That was their first win on the road this season and at 5/1, was a definite coupon buster.
20th - Sheffield United £165.60 - ROI 87%
To say Sheffield United have underperformed in the first half of the season would be an understatement. The Blades have been shocking at times and have just five points after 19 games. No team has ever stayed up after being in this position and were you to have placed £10 on Chris Wilder’s side every game this season, you’d be looking at a loss of £165.60.
