Manchester United vs Arsenal Predictions
Man United are going through a hugely disappointing season, as they sit 14th in the league table with just 33 points after 27 games, 13 points behind the Champions League spots.
Despite a credible 1-1 draw away to Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie, it is just one win in five for Amorim’s men, a narrow 3-2 triumph against strugglers Ipswich Town. They have been very inconsistent at Old Trafford, winning just four and losing six of their last 10 in front of their own supporters.
As for Arsenal, they sit second in the league table but 13 points behind the league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand. They were going through a rough run of form with just one win in four, and failing to score in their last two consecutive Premier League games against West Ham and Nottingham Forest.
However, they responded in resounding fashion with a 7-1 win away to PSV in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, becoming the first team in Champions League history to score seven goals away from home in the knockout stages of this competition.
As for their head to head meetings, the Gunners have lost just one of their last five meetings against Manchester United and that was in the FA Cup via a penalty shootout earlier this season. They have had the upper hand in recent seasons over United, winning the last four consecutive league meetings against them, including a 1-0 away win at Old Trafford last season.
Mikel Merino has completed the full 90 minutes six times in the Premier League, committing 4, 5, 3, 2, 4 & 3 fouls in those games respectively.
In the two games that he has started up front for Arsenal in the Premier League, he has committed 5 & 3 fouls against West Ham and Nottingham Forest respectively.
He has also committed two or more fouls in all four Champions League starts for Arsenal this season. His tendency to put in a tackle makes him a foul magnet and I expect him to continue this trend against Manchester United this weekend.
Diogo Dalot is averaging 2.2 tackles per game for Manchester United in the Premier League this season. He has registered at least one tackle in eight of his last nine league games and put in three tackles when he came up against Arsenal earlier this season. He will most likely be up against the electric Ethan Nwaneri who loves to take on his opponents so there should be plenty of opportunities for Dalot to put in a tackle.
As for goals, there is always a lot of goal mouth action when these two sides go up against each other. There has been at least one goal scored in their last 10 consecutive head to head games in all competitions and Manchester United have not been part of a 0-0 scoreline in their last 32 games in all competitions. With Arsenal finding their goalscoring touch again by scoring seven goals against PSV in the Champions League, they should be able to breach United’s defence at least once at the weekend.
Manchester United vs Arsenal Betting Offers
Jurrien Timber is Arsenal’s most booked player with seven yellow cards to his name in the Premier League this season.
He has been cautioned in three of his last five away games in the league and was also yellow carded in midweek in Arsenal’s Champions League clash against PSV.
He loves an aggressive tackle and is a big price to go in the book again this Sunday against Manchester United so we will take this as our second bet with a small 0.25pt stake.
