Man Utd Odds: Can incoming interim manager Ralf Rangnick win a trophy?

Manchester United are set to appoint Ralf Rangnick as their new interim manager, with the 63-year-old now as short as 1/25 in the betting.
United parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday following a run of five defeats in seven Premier League games.
They’ve since been linked with a plethora of managers, including Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane, Ernesto Valverde, and Lucien Favre.
However, The Athletic report that it’s Rangnick who will win the race for one of the most prized jobs in football. The influential German boss - known as the Godfather of Gegenpressing - has agreed terms with the club but we now await the outcome of talks between United and Rangnick's current club Lokomotiv Moscow, where he's working as head of sports and development.
He's then expected to sign a six-month contract with the Red Devils, and could stay on for a further two years in a consultancy role.
Below we take a look at Man Utd’s odds in various competitions following the news that Rangnick is set to replace Solskjaer at Old Trafford. The latter was unable to win a trophy in three years, but can the imminent arrival of Rangnick trigger United into life?

Premier League: 125/1
Man Utd are unlikely to end their wait for another Premier League title under Rangnick. At least not this season anyway.
The 125/1 outsiders are currently 8th in the table with 17 points from 12 matches. They’ve lost five games already and conceded more goals than they’ve scored. In fact, only the bottom two clubs have leaked in more goals so far this term.
Thomas Tuchel’s league leaders Chelsea have already amassed 12 more points than United who are nine points behind Man City, and eight points off Liverpool in 3rd. Rangnick has never won a top-flight title but did finish runners-up in the Bundesliga during his time at Schalke.
United, who are priced at 6/5 (Bet365) to finish in the top-four, are six points adrift of 4th-placed West Ham who are led by their former boss David Moyes.
If all goes to plan, Rangnick’s first match in charge will be against Arsenal on Thursday 2nd December because he has to wait for his work permit. Caretaker Michael Carrick will be at the helm for the second time this weekend for the clash against Chelsea.

Champions League: 18/1
The Premier League title may be a long shot but the Champions League arguably offers a more realistic opportunity for Rangnick to win a trophy this season.
For starters, United have booked their place in the knockout stages following a 2-0 win away to Villarreal under Carrick, who has propelled the club through as group winners.
We’ll now have to wait and see who United draw in the last-16. We know that Liverpool, Chelsea, and Man City will also be in the pot - English teams can't face each other until the quarter-finals - as are the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Ajax.
United can currently be backed at 16/1 to win the Champions League for the first time since 2008 - sixth favourites in the betting.
They are 7/1 (Paddy Power) to reach the final, Sporting Index have them at 2/1 to make it to the semi-finals, and they are 5/1 (Sporting Index) to outlast the other three Premier League teams.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is currently 14/1 (Bet Victor) to finish as the competition’s top-goalscorer for the eighth time in his career. He’s currently joint-fourth on six goals.

FA Cup: 8/1
Lastly, with United already out of the League Cup, we look ahead to the FA Cup with the third-round kicking-off over the weekend of 8th January 2022.
It’s a trophy that United have only won once since 2004. Their last triumph was in 2015/16 under Louis van Gaal - a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace - while they reached the final in 2017/18 but Jose Mourinho’s side lost to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
Under Rangnick, United can be backed as the 8/1 fourth-favourites with SBK. It’s Man City who top the pile in the betting, ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.
Rangnick previously won the German Cup with Schalke back in 2011, he also lost a final with both Schalke and RB Leipzig.
