The Community Shield takes place on Saturday with Manchester City taking on Manchester United in a repeat of the FA Cup final back in May. We’ve asked our man Anthony Eadson to crunch the numbers and provide us with his best bets for the game from Wembley.

United were as big as 8/1 to beat City in the FA Cup final and this time out they are much shorter, but are still the considerable underdogs at 4/1 to win in 90 minutes. The draw is chalked-up at 7/2, while a win for Pep Guardiola’s side is odds-on at 4/7.
Community Shield contests can often be low scoring affairs, with a slower tempo and often more of a pre-season friendly vibe. Both of my bets centre around an unglamorous affair that lacks in goalmouth action and cards.
The first bet weighs in at a very backable 19/10 with bet365 and consists of Under 4 Goals and Under 4 Cards. In recent years we have seen some high scoring affairs between these two, but they have not met in the Community Shield since back in 2011.
Looking back at recent renewals, six of the last seven Community Shield matches have featured Under 3 goals, with the only outlier in that period being the 2022 clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.
When tempo and motivation to win a game are reduced we can often see a lower card-count with players often cautious of picking up an injury ahead of the new season next week. Over the last eight matches, there has been an average of just 2.3 cards shown.
For my longshot which is available at the time of writing at 10/1, I’ve increased the lines to Under 3 goals and Under 3 cards, but I’ve also included Under 11 Corners.
When goalmouth action and shots are decreased, the corner count often follows suit. In the last decade, every Community Shield match has featured Under 12 corners, with eight of those featuring under 11. All past trends point to an underwhelming game and the prices for both bets I’ve highlighted hold plenty of juice in my opinion.
