Man City vs Man United Bet Builder Tips
The Community Shield is a funny affair. Neither of its participants tend to put much stock into the result, which isn't to say that both teams don't want to win, but more that they aren't prepared to go to those extra lengths to achieve a result.
What we typically know about this fixture is that goals can be hard to come by. The last time we saw more than four goals in this season opener was 1992 when Leeds United and Liverpool played out a 4-3 thriller at the original Wembley Stadium.
Neither team will be close to full strength, especially in City's case as this fixture has proven an experimental ground for new Pep Guardiola ideas ahead of the season's official start date.
Add to that the fact that City and United's last five meetings have all ended with four or fewer goals, we feel quite comfortable declaring this goals line as our starting point.
On the player prop front, Oscar Bobb should continue his place in City's starting XI having been selected from the off in all four of their pre-season friendlies so far. During this run he's notched twice, levelling the score in their opener with Celtic in North Carolina before putting his team up three goals to the good against Chelsea a week ago.
Bobb recorded two goals and two assists in 819 club minutes last term, but should be the major beneficiary of Julian Alvarez's imminent switch to Atletico Madrid. Although he'll have to earn his place during the regular season, right now he's almost guaranteed that position due to Phil Foden still having not yet reported back for first team training, plus the uncertainty over numerous international players' fitness.
Both of last campaign's goals came away from the Etihad - at St James' Park in the Premier League and versus Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League - and that boosts his chances of another goal on the road this weekend.
Rounding us off is Bruno Fernandes, who had his joint-most reckless season by way of cards, picking up 12 across four different competitions for the Red Devils.
He ended United's league campaign with a yellow in their 2-0 win over Brighton, and is probably one individual in red who fans can rely on to be an active participant at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
The Portuguese midfielder has been brandished a card in two of his last four Manchester derbies, and continues to be a very backable prospect in this market, regardless of result, circumstances or stakes.
