Man City vs Crystal Palace Preview
The news that English teams' performances in Europe have resulted in a fifth Champions League place for the Premier League will have been welcomed at Man City, with Pep Guardiola’s side sitting sixth in the table after last weekend’s boring draw against Man Utd. However, if they get into the top five, games like this against a Palace side who have only lost once since January could be pivotal. With Oliver Glasner’s team proving to be a bogey team for City in recent years, it looks like a tricky tie for the fallen giants.
Man City vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips
In a desperate attempt to find some form, Pep Guardiola has shuffled his side in recent weeks and one of the key positional changes has seen regular wide-man Bernardo Silva played in a deeper central role. Across 16 appearances in a more defensive position, the Portuguese midfielder has averaged 3.06 tackles per 90 and hit at least two in 13 of those. Across his last four starts, he’s made a massive 20 tackles and so is clearly growing into his new role.
Crystal Palace are not a side who draw huge numbers in terms of tackles, but Silva will be tasked with containing two of their most dangerous players in Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr, who are dispossessed three times per game between them. Seven of the last eight opposition defensive midfielders against the Eagles have had two or more tackles, with five of them hitting three or more. In the last seven meetings between these two sides, Rodri has been the most defensive City midfielder, and he’s managed 21 tackles, so Silva has big boots to fill.
Another player looking to replace one of City’s most reliable players is Omar Marmoush who has recently been starting as a central striker in the absence of Erling Haaland. In his last three games in this role, the Egyptian has had three shots on target in each of them, contributing to his record of 1.75 per 90 for his new club in all competitions. City’s starting striker has landed this bet in 3 of the last 5 head-to-heads, whilst Palace have seen the opposition striker have at least two efforts on goal in each of their last three Premier League games.
Marmoush has also found the back of the net six times already in England and so should thrive with more goalscoring responsibility on his shoulders. Whilst he can’t quite compete with Haaland’s monstrous goalscoring numbers, his record of 26 goals in 39 appearances this season suggests that he’s more than capable of putting the ball in the back of the net. City have scored at least twice in four of the last five meetings with Haaland accounting for six of those goals and so Pep’s tactical set-up clearly creates chances for his frontman and Marmoush’s record demonstrates he can finish them nearly as well as the Norwegian.
