Liverpool vs Everton Preview
Arne Slot’s men sit top of the pile in the Premier League, 12 points clear of Arsenal who sit second.
They are on a staggering run of 25 games unbeaten in the league but their recent games have seen a considerable drop in performance levels.
As a result, they’ve been knocked out of the Champions League by PSG on penalties after they lost the second leg at Anfield and were also beaten 2-1 in the Carabao Cup Final by Newcastle, who richly deserved the win.
It looks like fatigue is setting in and the players look slightly jaded, supported by the fact that their total runs into the penalty box has fallen by a massive 23%, while sprints are also down by 15%.
However, a two-week break would have certainly given the players ample time to regroup and get back to the same intensity levels that they were producing at the start of the season.
There will certainly be no lack of motivation with rivals Everton heading to Anfield trying to deny Slot’s men a massive advantage in the title race.
The visitors are also on an impressive run of nine games unbeaten in the Premier League, although their last four consecutive games have ended in draws. With two wins and two draws in their last four away games in the Premier League, Everton now have a 17 point cushion from the relegation zone, so will head over to Anfield full of confidence.
With four draws, four Liverpool wins and two Everton wins in their last 10 head-to-head clashes in the Premier League, this has always been a closely fought contest and the current form of both sides suggests this will be another extremely competitive Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool vs Everton Betting Tips
Mohamed Salah has been nothing short of phenomenal this season, scoring the most goals in the league (27) and also leading the assists leaderboard comfortably having provided 17 assists.
He has scored or assisted in his last eight consecutive Premier League games and the last time he came up against Everton earlier this season, he assisted the opening goal and scored their second goal. He is also on penalty duty which gives this selection a huge boost.
As for Idrissa Gueye, he is averaging the most tackles (3.9) and second most fouls (1.5) per game for Everton and is their joint most booked player with six yellow cards to his name.
He has committed a foul in 12 of his 13 away appearances in the Premier League this season and also committed two fouls in the reverse leg at Goodison Park. He has a tendency to put in aggressive tackles and commit cynical fouls which should help us in getting this selection over the line.
Abdoulaye Doucoure received two yellow cards and subsequently a red card in the reverse fixture against Liverpool earlier this season. He was celebrating excessively in front of the Liverpool supporters which didn’t sit well with the Liverpool players and coaching staff.
He could well be the target of a few strong challenges and I expect him to show a reaction which could well get him booked again. He is also averaging the most fouls per game (1.6) for Everton this season in the Premier League.
As for Szoboszlai, he is averaging 1.3 fouls per game for Liverpool this season and has committed at least one foul in his last 10 consecutive Premier League starts. He also committed two fouls in the reverse leg at Goodison Park and I expect him to commit a cynical foul in what should be a feisty Merseyside Derby.
Combining these two gives us a double @ 3/1 which we will take as our second bet with a small 0.25pt stake.
