Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction and betting Tips: Billy Gilmour appeals in the cards market
Second-placed Liverpool get the chance to go top of the Premier League on Sunday lunchtime - for a few hours anyway - by beating Brighton, though Jurgen Klopp’s men won’t be taking the Seagulls lightly.

The Reds have beaten Brighton just once in their last eight Premier League meetings, emphasising why many in the Anfield board-room believe Roberto De Zerbi would be a good fit when Klopp waves farewell this summer.
Liverpool’s FA Cup exit at Manchester United was a bitter pill and they will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways at Anfield, where they are yet to lose this season.
Liverpool vs Brighton Team News
Liverpool have a doubt over left-back Andrew Robertson, who picked up a knock with Scotland, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota and keeper Alisson are still out.
Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez are in contention, however.
Billy Gilmour returns from suspension for Brighton to line up alongside Pascal Gross in midfield.
Top scorer Joao Pedro is also expected to be fit though Kaoru Mitoma and Solly March are still absentees.
Predicted Line-Ups:
- Liverpool (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Nunez, Diaz.
- Brighton (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Lamptey, Van Hecke, Dunk, Julio; Gilmour, Gross; Adingra, Lallana, Fati; Pedro.
Liverpool vs Brighton Tips
With two draws and a win on their last three trips to Anfield, don’t expect Brighton to retreat into their shell as the volume rises on The Kop.
The super slick Seagulls won’t change the way they play, whoever the opponent and wherever the venue, and rest assured De Zerbi’s side will ask questions of Klopp’s treble chasers.
Liverpool can go top for a few hours with a win but are a short price to do so against a Brighton side who are eighth in the table and going well.
Whether Brighton can go on and beat the Merseysiders is another question, especially as Liverpool seem to be coping admirably enough with a handful of big injuries.
But Brighton provide value to win a half. Since the turn of the year, Liverpool have lost a half to Fulham (on two occasions), Arsenal, Luton and both Manchester clubs, most recently in the 4-3 loss to United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup.
They have their nervy moments and will leave themselves open at the back and a side as precise as Brighton can punish them.
Another bet to consider has to be Billy Gilmour to be booked at 13/4 with BetMGM.
Returning from a ban means we know he’s got form and, as if to prove the point, he picked up a yellow card in a “friendly” for Scotland against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on Tuesday.
When the game gets stretched and Brighton need to slow down the game, Gilmour might need to resort to some dark arts that won’t escape the attention of referee David Coote, who is averaging 4.8 yellow cards per game.
