Liverpool now odds-on favourites for the Premier League title following City's collapse against Leicester

Liverpool are now odds-on favourites in the Premier League winner betting market, priced at 10/11 by the bookies to make it back-to-back title triumphs next year. Despite winning the league emphatically by 18 points last season, it was Manchester City who were sent off as the 5/6 favourites this time out compared to Liverpool's 2/1.
But the Reds have seemingly just picked up where they left off last term, winning their opening three matches, with their latest victory coming in the shape of an impressive 3-1 win over Mikel Arteta’s in-form Arsenal side at Anfield on Monday evening.
Despite slipping behind thanks to a 25th-minute goal from Alexandre Lacazette, Jurgen Klopp’s side drew level just three minutes later through Sadio Mane and added two more goals either side of half-time to ensure they obtained maximum points in their first three top-flight matches.
Prior to this weekend’s Premier League action, the Merseyside outfit were priced at 7/4 in the outright winner market but following Manchester City’s dismal display against Leicester on Sunday afternoon - which saw Pep Guardiola’s side ship five goals on home soil to lose 5-2 - Liverpool’s odds shortened to evens.
Now, after another convincing performance against a Gunners side who had themselves won their opening two games against Fulham and West Ham, the 2019-20 champions have moved into odds-on favourites for the title for the first time this term. They are now 40/1 to go the whole season unbeaten with bookmaker William Hill.
It is, at the moment, hard to look past the Reds in this season’s title race despite the campaign only being three weeks old. Klopp’s well-oiled machine have stocked up on WD40 over the brief summer off-season and they have fired out of the traps in emphatic style.
Their opening day tussle with Leeds was not straightforward, but they got the job done against an incredibly attack-minded and talented side who were chomping at the bit to spoil the party.
Then, a week later they completely outplayed Chelsea away from home and acquired another three points against a side deemed as challengers to the throne, which really did show that the difference in class is still significant despite a summer of spending from the Blues.
A 7-2 drubbing over Lincoln in midweek highlighted Liverpool’s strength in depth, as the club’s second-string didn’t just merely get the job done and avoid a potential banana skin against lesser opposition, but indeed made a statement that the League Cup is a competition they are in to win, alongside every other piece of silverware on offer this season (6/1 second-favourites in the League Cup winner betting).
As for their challengers in the Premier League, early indications suggest that Leicester could in fact prove to be a bigger thorn in the side of Liverpool’s torso than Manchester City, if Sunday’s result is anything to go by.
The Foxes currently lead the way in the top-flight thanks to their resounding 5-2 victory at the Etihad and have now seen their odds for the title drastically cut from 200/1 to 40/1. While it is of course still early days, Brendan Rodgers’ side do look extremely sharp this term and could be a good shout for an each-way ante-post selection.
However, when their Europa League season commences and the fixture list begins to ramp up, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see their league form start to falter a little. Jamie Vardy is currently joint-top goalscorer with five goals to his name, and the 33-year-old has seen his odds in the Premier League top scorer betting shortened to 9/2 from 12/1 after his hat-trick against City at the weekend.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah remains slight favourite in the market at 4/1, while Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin - who also has five goals to his name so far - has seen his odds cut to 11/1 from 16/1 after his goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
