After being crowned winners of the Championship last season, Leicester City returned to the top-flight at the first attempt. Enzo Maresca has swapped Leicester for London over the summer and now Steve Cooper is the man tasked with keeping the Foxes in the Premier League.
Ange Postecoglou enjoyed a positive first season with Spurs but his side fell just short of making the Champions League places. Tottenham are the 7/10 favourites to start the 2024/25 season with a win, while the draw is available at 16/5. Steve Cooper’s last game in charge of Nottingham Forest was a defeat against Spurs and his new team are 10/3 to collect the three points in his first game at the helm.
The first selection that I’m siding with on Monday is for James Maddison to record one or more shots on target in the match. Sky Bet have boosted this price to Evens from 4/6, which could prove incredibly generous for a player who loves to let fly.
Over the last two Premier League seasons Maddison has registered 50 shots on target in 58 appearances. He has cleared the 1+ shot on target line in 40 of those 58 top-flight outings and I feel a game against one of the sides who are fancied to be relegated this season should provide him with plenty of chances. Most other firms have this bet priced around 4/6, so I’m taking the boosted offering of 1/1 from Sky Bet.
At 13/2 I’ve also had a few quid on Son Heung-min to Score or Assist & Harry Winks to be carded. Since arriving at Spurs, Son has been involved in 13 goals in 14 Premier League appearances against Leicester with nine goals and four assists. The South Korean has scored five and assisted once in his last three against the Foxes and he looks a solid proposition to add to those on Monday.
Harry Winks was shown nine yellow cards in Leicester’s Championship winning season. Over his final two seasons with Spurs he averaged 0.36 cards per 90 and with card happy referee Chris Kavanagh who averaged 4.1 per game last term, I fancy Winks to find his way into the book in his team's opener.
