Leicester City vs Newcastle Preview
After Steve Cooper was sacked in December and Ruud Van Nistelrooy took four points from West Ham and Brighton in his opening two games, optimism of survival was high for the Foxes. However, since then, they have failed to score at home, losing 14 of their last 15 games. This Leicester side are a far cry from the one that stormed to the Championship title under Enzo Maresca.
The hierarchy at the club, in particular John Rudkin, have failed the fans and the atmosphere has turned toxic in recent weeks. It would not be a surprise to see a host of empty seats and a subdued atmosphere on Monday as the issues at the club continue to mount up. Harry Winks was excluded from the squad for the defeat at Manchester City after a bust up with the manager about his commute, despite having a new born child.
Newcastle, on the other hand, are in the strongest position they’ve been in for years. Eddie Howe delivered the clubs first major trophy for 70 years and has his side sat in sixth position with a game in hand after yet another win in midweek.
The reverse fixture was Van Nistelrooy’s first defeat in charge in a disappointing 4-0 defeat. The nature of the defeat and attacking feebleness was perhaps a sign to come for the rest of the Dutchmen’s reign.
Leicester City vs Newcastle Betting Tips
Despite scoring five goals in RVN’s opening two games (3xG combined) Leicester have failed to score in the following seven home league games since. In fact, since those two opening games, The Foxes have blanked in 12/15, including the last six in the league.
Only the current top three (Liverpool, Arsenal & Nottingham Forest) boast a better away record than Newcastle who have taken 24 points from 15 games. Eddie Howe’s side also have one of the best defensive records in the league. In all competitions, The Toon Army have won their last three, as well as five of their last seven away games - only losing to Liverpool and Manchester City in this period.
A goal against Brentford in midweek took Isak’s total to 20 for the season. While Mohamed Salah is running away with the golden boot, Erling Haaland’s injury against Bournemouth in the FA Cup triumph means Isak should finish runner up.
The 25-year-old has now scored 20 goals in 26 Premier League starts, averaging 0.85 goals per 90 in the league. He also has four goals in the cup, taking his tally to 24 for the season. Playing against a Leicester side he already scored against this season and that have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 26 in all competitions, he should have plenty of opportunities to add to his already impressive goal tally for season.
