Ipswich vs Man United Prediction, Odds and Lineups: 18/1 double for this afternoon's match

All eyes will be on Ruben Amorim as he takes charge of his first game at the helm of Man United this afternoon. The Red Devils make the trip to Ipswich Town, live on Sky Sports 1 at 4:30pm.

At the 11th time of asking, Ipswich finally secured their first Premier League win of the season, shocking Tottenham 2-1 in London. The Tractor Boys were resolute defensively and stunned Spurs on the counter, with goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap the difference.  

Despite being linked with Chelsea and Brighton in the summer, manager Kieran McKenna remained in Suffolk, and Ipswich are finally reaping the rewards. As many as 12 players joined the club in the summer as they look to become a Premier League staple. It took a while for the new signings to gel, but it is believed things are slowly starting to click at Ipswich.  

After 11 games, they sit 17th in the league, one point clear of the drop zone. With 22 goals conceded, they have the second-worst defensive record in the league, while only Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton have scored fewer than their 12 goals.  

Kalvin Phillips returns from suspension but faces tough competition from Jens-Lys Cajuste to regain his place. Chiedozie Ogbene looks to be out, while Jacob Greaves, Nathan Broadhead and Wes Burns are all doubtful with knocks.  

Manchester United are embarking on a new under Ruben Amorim. An underwhelming stint from Erik ten Haag was finally ended last month, with Ruud Van Nistelrooy placed in temporary charge. The 48-year-old restored some clarity at Old Trafford, beating Leicester in the cup, PAOK in the Europa League and Leicester in the league, as well as drawing with Chelsea.  

Amorim finally takes charge on Sunday and is expected to implement his 3-4-2-1 formation that proved so successful at Sporting Lisbon. The Red Devils have been underwhelming this season, sitting in 13th place. With 12 goals scored, they have the fourth-worst attacking record in the league, so the 39-year-old will make improving the feeble attack his priority.  

A host of players are touch-and-go for Manchester United, so it is tough to predict what lineup Amorim will debut with.

Sam Morsy has been a mainstay in Ipswich’s midfield for four seasons now after joining from Middlesbrough. The captain has overseen promotions from League One and the Championship and now faces his toughest test yet as the Tractor Boys fight for safety in the pinnacle of English football. 

The Egyptian has developed a reputation as being a tenacious midfielder who wears his heart on his sleeve. In his three full seasons at Ipswich, he has accumulated 36 yellow cards, averaging 1.91 fouls per 90 over this period.  

This season has started similarly, picking up four yellows in ten starts while averaging 1.81 fouls per 90.  

Manuel Ugarte is reunited with his old manager and is expected to slot straight into the double pivot in front of the back three. The Uruguayan was signed for £ 50 million in the summer for PSG.  

In the Premier League, he has been booked 0.65 times and made 3.87 fouls per 90 minutes. He has also made 4.14 fouls per 90 minutes in the EFL Cup and 2.20 in the Europa League. The 23-year-old has just returned from international duty, getting booked against Brazil.  

Anthony Taylor will officiate this tie, and he has been criticised for his lack of control over games. With two tenacious, tough-tackling midfielders facing off, he could be in for a long afternoon.

Liam Delap signed in the summer for a fee that will potentially rise to £20million and the youngster looks to be worth every penny.  

The 21-year-old has scored six goals in 10 starts thus far, averaging 0.69 goals per 90. His goal against Tottenham demonstrated his poacher instincts, bundling in from one yard out. 

At 6’1 Delap is a player who thrives in a physical battle, making 2.87 fouls and winning 1.72 per 90. He also has a petulant side to his game, with two of his four bookings coming for dissent.  

Against a Manchester United side who are embarking on a new era, Delap will look to continue his goalscoring exploits. It would also not be a surprise to see him in Anthony Taylor’s notebook

Rashford and Garnacho both start for Man Utd, as does Evans, while Hojland is on the bench.

Hosts Ipwswich have made one change, with Burns in for Johnson.
