Ipswich vs Derby Betting Tips: Tractor Boys to come out on top against Derby
Friday night football sees 2nd place Ipswich Town host 9th place Derby County in a game which could see Derby rise all the way to fourth. We’ll be previewing the action and picking out two bets that we think represent some decent value.
Ipswich are loving life in League One this season where they find themselves in 2nd position, just four points off leaders Plymouth Argyle. The Tractor Boys have recently had a minor blip in form losing their last two games but will be looking to bounce back against Derby. Ipswich have only tasted defeat twice this season in the league, once in their previous game and the other being against league leaders Plymouth Argyle.
Derby on the other hand are a few places off where they would like to be, but have only played 12 games compared to the likes of Ipswich and Plymouth who have played 14. Derby started this season as one of the favourites for promotion so they will definitely be looking to build on their 3-0 away win at Accrington last week. The Rams have only lost one game on the road in the League this season and are currently on a two-game winning streak away from home thanks to a 2-0 win against Cambridge and the aforementioned 3-0 result against Accrington.
The bookmakers are fancying Ipswich to take this one, pricing them at 4/6 for the win and Derby at 15/4 for the upset. Given the positions in the league and the start that Ipswich have had you’d have to say the odds are fair, but with The Tractor Boys facing two losses in a row, a potential upset could be on the cards.
As mentioned earlier, Ipswich have been great in the league this season, however, they have been vulnerable to conceding goals recently, and Derby County seem to be scoring a fair bit as well.
In four of Derby’s last five games, they’ve been the first team to score, pair that with the statistic that Ipswich are without a clean sheet in their last three games, this looks destined to result in both teams finding the back of the net. Derby have also managed to score in all but one of their last 11 games so expect them to go straight at Ipswich. Whilst I do believe that both teams will end up on the scoresheet on Friday, I think Ipswich ultimately have the quality over Derby to secure all three points.
Ipswich do come into the game as the odds-on favourites for the match and I do expect them to put a few past Derby who have proven to be shaky at the back in their recent games where they have conceded five in their last three games. Three of those goals were against Manchester City’s U21 team which doesn’t fill me with much confidence that they can get the job done against 2nd in the league Ipswich.
Conor Chaplin is currently enjoying a stunning season for the Tractor Boys. He is the club’s top scorer and also in third place when it comes to most assists. The forward has been pivotal to Ipswich’s success this season and that is evident from the back-to-back PFA Vertu Motors Fans' awards that he has one this season.
As we previously mentioned, we’re fully expecting Ipswich to score a few goals against Derby on Friday, and don’t be surprised to see Conor Chaplin involved in the goals with him being the leading scorer for the club. At home in the league, Ipswitch have scored 10 goals in their last five games and with them being such heavy favourites against Derby, you’d have to think they’ll dominate most of the game.
It’s so safe to say that we’re expecting a fair few goals in this one and hopefully, it provides us with some decent Friday night entertainment, best of luck to all of those that follow the bets!
