India vs. Afghanistan Betting Tips: Two predictions for Wednesday's Cricket World Cup clash
India kicked off their quest to claim Cricket World Cup glory on home soil in fine style as they trounced Australia in their opening match and the current favourites for the tournament will look to make it two wins from two on Wednesday when they take on Afghanistan in what could be another one-sided affair.
Here at BettingOdds.com we look to try and point you in the right direction of a winner or two and our man Steve Chambers has a brace of tips for the match that takes place in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi...
India vs Afghanistan Tips
Having skittled Australia for 199 it was a harrowing start for India, who were 2-3 in the first few overs, but fine knocks from Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97*) saw the hosts cruise to victory by six wickets and they will be eager to not make the same mistake again and they will be looking for their openers to find their form.
Spearheading India's opening partnership will be Rohit Sharma, who has been one of the iconic one-day international cricketers over the last decade, and he will be looking to bounce back from his opening match duck and at 11/4 with Betfred he is a decent bet to be top scorer for India. Tenth in the ODI Player Rankings, Sharma has a magnificent average of over 48 in one-day internationals which certainly puts him in an elite bracket and with Afghanistan's bowlers lacking significant strength in depth then he could well be the mainstay of the Indian innings.
Ishan Kishan is likely to be given licence from the first ball and he will be looking to get India off to a good start and he's another lining up on the back of a duck in the first match, but in Sharma there's a man that can produce some stunning match-winning innings and whilst others look to score quickly he can serenely move his way to three figures and help post an imposing score, should India bat first.
In what should be one of the easier matches of this 2023 Cricket World Cup for the hosts (1/10 to win match), India could change personnel a little, but one man that should lead the pace attack is Jasprit Bumrah, who at 3/1 to be the top India bowler looks a decent bet. Opening the bowling, he's sure to put the Afghanistan openers under the pressure, but it's at the end of an innings that will see the 29-year-old in his best light and he could clean up the tail with consummate ease.
Mohammed Siraj may top the ODI bowling rankings and will be an able partner to Bumrah at the top of the innings, but Bumrah's ability to get wickets in the latter stages of an innings could see him dominate the Afghanistan batsmen in this event. Having amassed 131 wickets for India in ODI's, Bumrah's figures may not do him justice in terms of how he can be a real titan of the Indian bowling attack and with the lower order of Afghanistan sure to struggle with his unique bowling style means that he could well skittle them cheaply and bag himself a 5-fer.
Bumrah has only played Afghanistan once before in the 50-over format and he got figures of 2/39, so he will be eager to improve on those numbers and Wednesday's match gives him a great opportunity to add to the 2/35 he got against Australia.
