West Ham vs Viborg (7.45pm) - BTTS
West Ham enjoyed quite the European journey last season, beating Sevilla and Lyon en route to the Europa League semi-finals where they were edged out by eventual winners Frankfurt. David Moyes’ side now face Viborg in a Conference League play-off they will be expected to win, as they bid to kick-start their season following consecutive defeats in the Premier League.
West Ham are the hot favourites to win the first-leg, and should be far too strong for their opponents. They are, however, pretty short at 2/9 in the outright betting, although there’s value to be had at 11/8 in the BTTS market. West Ham have conceded in both matches to date this term and in nine of their last 10 games in all competitions. Meanwhile, Viborg have found the back of the net in eight of their nine matches this campaign.
Villarreal vs Hajduk Split (7.45pm) - Villarreal to win to nil
Villarreal have been loving European competition under boss Unai Emery. Not only did they win the Europa League in 2021 but they followed this up last season with a voyage through to the Champions League semi-finals - beating Juventus and Bayern Munich along the way - where they gave Liverpool a huge scare.
Villarreal opened the season with a convincing 3-0 win at Valladolid, and should now make light work of their first-leg Conference tie at home to Hajduk Split, with another win to nil the preference here. The Croatians haven’t had the most ideal preparation, losing their last two games. Emery is expected to name a full strength team - featuring star striker Gerard Moreno - as he looks to avoid a potential banana skin.
Fiorentina vs FC Twente (8pm) - Over 2.5 Goals
We’re expecting goals in Florence when Fiorentina take on FC Twente on Thursday night, given how their respective seasons have started, with over 2.5 goals the pick for this one.
Fiorentina opened the campaign up with an entertaining 3-2 win at home to Cremonese in Serie A thanks to a last-gasp winner, while their five pre-season matches were all high-scoring, each going over 2.5 goals.
FC Twente are four wins from four games in all competitions so far, games which have contained a combined 13 goals. The Dutch side have bagged 11 of those 13 goals, and will certainly fancy their chances of opening up the Fiorentina defence in what looks set to be an open encounter.
Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Nice (6pm) - Draw
We finish this little European journey in Israel where Maccabi Tel Aviv take on Nice.
Maccabi Tel Aviv are managed by former Watford boss Vladimir Ivic who has negotiated his side past FC Zire and Aris Salonika in the qualifiers, while returning Nice boss Lucien Favre has just been involved in league games to date.
Nice, who signed the likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Aaron Ramsey during the summer, have played out two 1-1 draws so far which doesn't inspire too much confidence heading into this tricky trip to Tel Aviv.
The hosts don't lose on home soil often - just once in 20 games dating back to November - while they've only been defeated once in nine Conference League home matches. At the same time, I don't expect Nice to come away empty handed, especially with the astute Favre at the helm, making a draw stand-out here at 21/10 which pings this Acca up to 22/1.
