Football Accumulator Tips: Forest Green feature in our EFL Treble this weekend

No Championship action this weekend but plenty of football to feast on in League One and League Two, where EFL expert Gabriel Sutton offers his best football betting tips.

Lincoln City to beat Bristol Rovers - 5/6

Lincoln have started the season with maximum points from their first four games. Michael Appleton was not an instant hit with the Imps but he was determined to use the lockdown period as an opportunity to hone in on recruitment.

Sure enough, the former Oxford boss has unearthed a gem in Lewis Montsma, a centre-back who is not only accomplished on the ball but can also pose a threat in the opposition boss from Jorge Grant’s deliveries.

Lincoln have a young side so Liam Bridcutt, at the base of their midfield, plays an invaluable role in bringing the tenacity and leadership to drive others on. Appleton’s side have the ability to mental strength to grow into games, even when they do not start so well; they showed excellent spirit to come from behind and win 3-2 at Blackpool, a victory that might not have been possible without Bridcutt’s influence.

Bristol Rovers, meanwhile, possess some talented individuals – left wing-back David Tutonda and forward Brandon Hanlan have started well – but there are still question marks about Ben Garner’s record as boss.

The Gas could struggle to keep Lincoln at bay.

Cheltenham to beat Crawley - 4/5

Cheltenham Town have kick-started their promotion push with back-to-back wins, 3-0 and 2-0 triumphs at Tranmere and Leyton Orient respectively.

Having a settled defence as well as competition in attack is a good blueprint and that is just what the
Robins possess. The back-three of Charlie Raglan, Ben Tozer and Will Boyle have played together regularly since February 2019, so recent clean sheets come as no surprise.

Going forward meanwhile, Michael Duff could pick any two of four strikers: Andy Williams and George Lloyd linked up well at Orient last time out, but Reuben Reid brings a more physical dimension and the persistent Alfie May had a transformative impact on the team’s goalscoring capabilities when he joined from Doncaster back in January.

Cheltenham face a Crawley side that sit on seven points from their first four games, but the only strong side they have faced are Port Vale, by whom they were outplayed in a 2-0 defeat.

John Yems’ side beat Scunthorpe with their only shot on target from Tom Nichols and although they won 3-2 at Oldham after that, they failed to see off strugglers Southend last time out. Cheltenham look good to make it three league wins on the spin and enter the top seven for the first
time this season.

Forest Green to win at Scunthorpe - 23/20

Quite how Forest Green drew 1-1 with Walsall last week is anyone’s guess. Mark Cooper’s side had 26 efforts at goal and got 10 of those on target, with Aaron Collins in an especially lively mood.

And yet, the Nailsworth outfit were consistently defied by the opposing goalkeeper, while Walsall had a paltry three shots and scored from the only one on target. A repeat of that Forest Green performance should suffice for victory at Scunthorpe, who have managed on average just two shots on target per game this season.

As well as a good finish from Jordan Hallam after a clever reverse pass from Alex Gilliead, the Iron needed a goalkeeping masterclass from Rory Watson to preserve a 1-0 victory over Carlisle two weeks ago – Watson’s track record suggests that is not something Neil Cox can rely on every week.

In last week’s game at Tranmere, Scunny started well but once the opposition made a tactical change in the first half to counter the midfield dominance, they were unable to respond and fell meekly to a 2-0 defeat.

Scunthorpe have lots of tidy, pretty midfielders in Lewis Spence, Frank Vincent and Jake Taylor, but are short of a battle-hardened campaigner in the mould of a Neal Bishop or a Stephen Dawson – they would need that type of player at the New Lawn, where they are likely to spend a lot of time
without the ball.

Cooper has identified his best XI very early this season at Forest Green, who look excellent value for victory.

This bet pays 8/1 with Paddy Power, boosted from 6/1. Good luck to anyone on board.
