Tuesday's football tips: 37/1 accumulator for the EFL cup second round

The domestic schedule for English clubs will be busier than ever this season, in a world still currently tainted by Covid-19. Tuesday night sees plenty of games with the second round of the Carabao Cup taking place across the country.
The featured match live on Sky Sports is Burton v Aston Villa and that kicks off at 19:45, however with so much uncertainty around team news I’ve opted for a both teams to score accumulator for my main bet of the evening.
Priced at 37/1 with bet365, I’ve picked out six games from Tuesday’s slate where I fancy both teams to find the back of the net. The real advantage here of using the Stoke-based bookmaker is that they offer an accumulator bonus based on the amount of selections you add into your bet.
Here for example, by adding in six selections bet365 will give you an extra 15% on top of your winnings if all of your chosen selections in the accumulator win. As a result, if this bet goes on to win it would return around 43/1 rather than the 37/1 that we are placing, not a bad offer at all!
The first of the games I’ve selected comes at 7:30pm, where Charlton make the short trip across London to face West Ham - with a home fixture against Leeds or Hull awaiting the winner. West Ham were incredibly disappointing in their opening day 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle. They’ve already been cut from 7/2 into 2/1 with William Hill in the Premier League relegation market and face a tough trip to Arsenal on Saturday. That could potentially pave the way for youngsters such as Ben Johnson to come into the team who could step in at right back.
Charlton started their league campaign with a 2-0 win over Crewe at the weekend and manager Lee Bowyer will be looking for an immediate return to the Championship after relegation last term. I’ve got confidence that they can find the scoresheet here against a weakened West Ham side who already have warning signs on the dashboard.
Next up we’ve got Newcastle v Blackburn at St James’ Park. The last time these two sides met in the North East was just over 18 months ago in an FA Cup third round tie where Newcastle equalised late on. I was at the game that day and I can see a similar scoreline on the cards this evening. Newcastle have been much improved in front of goal this calendar year and with competition for places in attack, Joelinton should come into this game with a point to prove. He now has Callum Wilson to deal with for the central striker role at the club and I think the Magpies should score against a Blackburn defence that is far from bombproof.
Adam Armstong has been one of the highlights for Blackburn Rovers over the last season and the 23 year-old returns to his former club on Tyneside on Tuesday evening. He’s Rovers’ biggest goal threat and scored an impressive eight goals from outside the area last season, showing he can be just as potent from long range. Tony Mowbray’s side opened their account with a 3-2 loss away at Bournemouth on Saturday. The ability to score two away at Bournemouth gives confidence that Rovers can find the net, though, and potentially cause Newcastle problems on the break.
Aston Villa will make the short trip up the A38 to face League One side Burton Albion in the second round. Villa have not yet played a competitive match this season, with this being the fourth that Burton will have participated in. I’m hoping with an extra bit of match sharpness that the hosts will potentially have an edge in this one. Player manager Jake Buxton’s side have scored in all three of their games so far this season against Fleetwood, Peterborough and Accrington. They have a good record in this competition over recent years, reaching the semi-final before being beaten over 10-0 over two legs by Manchester City in January 2019.
Villa should give a first start to striker Ollie Watkins who signed from Brentford last week. He’s worked with manager Dean Smith before and will be looking to get a goal on debut after scoring 26 in the Championship last term. Aston Villa have enough quality to cause Burton a real headache here, but hopefully there’s goals on the menu at both ends to help bring this both teams to score accumulator home.
The final Premier League team in action on Tuesday evening is Crystal Palace, who travel to freshly relegated Bournemouth. Palace started their Premier League campaign with a surprise win against Southampton after being tipped by many to be relegated this season. Michy Batshuayi has been re-signed on loan from Chelsea and should start this game alongside Jordan Ayew upfront, providing them with some added firepower in the final third.
Bournemouth have lost key names this summer including Aaron Ramsdale, Nathan Ake and Callum Wilson and this new-look side will have to look to Dominic Solanke to provide the goals at the top end of the pitch. The hosts scored three against Blackburn at the weekend and with Eddie Howe’s philosophy of free-flowing attacking football still ever present, I believe they can find the net against Crystal Palace.
There’s a huge incentive for both Leyton Orient and Plymouth on Tuesday evening. A potential money-spinner is on offer in the third round with a visit from Tottenham on the cards for the winner. Both sides won their opening day fixture to a scoreline of 1-0 and despite Orient being a league lower than Plymouth I think this will be a relatively even tie. The incentive of a game against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham should be a major factor at Brisbane Road on Tuesday, with both sides throwing the kitchen sink at it for the win.
Rounding proceedings off in this both teams to score six-fold is Morecambe v Oldham. The Shrimps narrowly avoided dropping out of the Football League last season finishing 22nd in League Two, with one of the worst defenses in the division. Oldham only finished nine points above Morecambe in the last campaign, with the sides meeting three times in 2019. On all three of those occasions, both teams to score landed and fingers crossed that trend will continue this evening to land the spoils at around 40/1 (including the bet365 bonus).
Good luck to those following, you can keep track all the results coming in on our live score page if you wish so. As always, please gamble responsibly and let’s hope there are plenty of goals to make this a terrific Tuesday come ten o’clock tonight.
