Flamengo vs Chelsea Preview
Chelsea can be backed at 3/4 to claim their second win of the tournament, Flamengo are available at 3/1 to run out winners, while a draw is priced at 13/5.
Both teams recorded comfortable 2-0 wins in their opening matches, and while Chelsea remain strong favourites with the bookmakers, a Flamengo side that has won seven of their last eight games across all competitions could present a sterner challenge than many might anticipate.
Flamengo vs Chelsea Tips
With "both teams to score" landing in just four of the opening 12 matches in the Club World Cup and, with neither Flamengo or Chelsea’s games included within those, backing against both teams to find the back of the net seems to be a reliable play in this competition.
The American climate has undoubtedly played a part in the general lack of intensity so far, as many games have been contested between sides with stark contrasts in quality. As mentioned already, this should be one of the more competitive games in the tournament so far, however, delving into both teams’ data suggests that goals could be at a premium.
Chelsea have seen this bet land in five of their last six matches in all competitions, including their opener against LAFC, and for Flamengo, both teams have failed to score in seven of their last eight.
Filipe Luis’ side gave up just 0.24 expected goals against Esperance whilst the Blues also allowed their opponents just 0.85. With both teams likely to rotate and in comfortable positions in the group, a low energy draw would suit both and everything points towards the tournament trend of both teams failing to get on the scoresheet continuing.
If we’re expecting a low scoring affair, the price of 2/1 on Chelsea to win without conceding feels chunky.
Enzo Maresca’s side are in fantastic form, having forced their way into the Premier League top four with five wins in their last six domestic games, and having also lifted a European trophy in that period, will be full of confidence.
Whilst Flamengo are just 11 games into their league season, Chelsea are already looking to the next campaign, and with the likes of Liam Delap looking to stake a claim for a starting berth, there’s plenty of motivation for them.
Four of their last five wins have come to nil and having conceded the third fewest goals of any Premier League team this season, their defence should be able to keep Flamengo out.
Flamengo rarely lose without troubling the scoresheet, however, they also scarcely face opponents of Chelsea’s stature and quality. New signing Jorginho is one of their only household names, and having allowed him to leave Stamford Bridge back in 2023, the Blues won’t mind seeing him on the teamsheet.
This game will be a far-cry from some of the one-sided games we’ve seen in the competition so far, however, Chelsea should still be able to hold their opponents at arm’s length and secure their path to the knockout stages without too much trouble.
