Odds slashed on Brendan Rodgers becoming the first Premier League manager to leave
Brendan Rodgers is now the odds-on favourite to become the first Premier League manager to leave this season, while some bookmakers have even closed the Sack Race market.
Rodgers, now just 4/9 with BetVictor, has endured a winless start to the new season after registering just one point from three games. Over the weekend Leicester suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Southampton - failing to hold onto a 1-0 lead - which left the Foxes in the relegation zone.
Elsewhere in the betting, there’s Frank Lampard at 6/1, Steven Gerrard at 7/1, and Erik ten Hag at 8/1, each of whom have each come under pressure already this term.
Rodgers has been plagued by consistent rumours relating to the future of some of his star players. Chelsea-linked Wesley Fofana was left out of the squad for the game against Saints and Arsenal-linked Youri Tielemans was benched. James Maddison, who scored on Saturday, has also been the subject of a move away this summer.
Meanwhile, Rodgers has so far only been allowed to bring in one player - third-choice goalkeeper Alex Smithies - and with the window shutting on 1st September, he's running out of time to bolster his squad.
This has only intensified rumours that Rodgers isn’t happy, but whether he’d consider walking away from the club is unknown. In 2019 he signed a contract extension which keeps him at Leicester until the summer of 2025.
The former Liverpool and Celtic boss replaced Claude Puel in February 2019, and proceeded to fire his troops to back-to-back 5th place finishes and FA Cup glory in his first two full seasons. He was then hotly linked with a move to Spurs, however he was quick to swat away speculation.
Leicester beat Man City to win the Community Shield at the start of last season and reached the Europa Conference League semi-finals, yet they disappointed in the Premier League where they eventually rescued an 8th place finish.
This term, Leicester failed to hold onto a 2-0 lead in their opening game against Brentford (2-2), lost 4-2 at Arsenal, then suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Saints. On Tuesday they travel to Stockport in the League Cup, which is followed by consecutive league games against Chelsea and Man Utd.
