Everton vs Man United Prediction, Lineups and Odds: Two bets for Premier League lunch clash

Life at Old Trafford isn’t getting any easier for Ruben Amorim as defeat at Tottenham last weekend saw them slip to 15th in the table with one of the most disjointed displays of his tenure so far. Experiencing the opposite end of the new manager spectrum, Everton have now moved above their visitors with victory at Palace last weekend making it four wins from their five Premier League outings under David Moyes. The difference in atmosphere at these two clubs could not be more of a contrast and that makes for an intriguing contest on Saturday afternoon.

David Moyes and set pieces are akin to Batman and Robin – one would not be as successful without the other. The Scot has built a reputation for prioritising attacking set plays throughout his career and this can be emphasised by his West Ham side scoring 25 goals from such situations across his last two seasons in charge.

In order to be a threat from restarts, teams need a focal point and in James Tarkowski, Everton have exactly that. His career record of 0.6 shots per game shows that he’s consistently getting on the end of corners and free-kicks and having netted that belting volley to steal a point against Liverpool last time out at home, he’ll be high on confidence too. Since Moyes took over, Tarkowski has had shots in three of his four starts at Goodison Park and he’ll be the first contact from all restarts.

It has been well documented how poor Man Utd are when defending set pieces, the Red Devils having shipped 11 goals from them this season which is a record that only Southampton and Wolves can beat. Despite winning the reverse fixture 4-0, they allowed the Toffees 0.23xg from set pieces and having given up four shots to opposition centre backs in their last two Premier League games, they look ripe for a Tarkowski goal in this one.

Patrick Dorgu’s arrival in Manchester had props bettors licking their lips as the wing back is involved in everything from shots to fouls. One area that doesn’t seem to have been picked up on by the bookmakers is his potential for drawing opposition fouls. In Serie A this season, he was fouled 2.69 times per 90 as opposing full backs struggled to deal with him. In 135 minutes of action for his new club he’s been fouled five times and so it looks like we can expect this trend to carry on in England.

Despite playing on the right against Leicester on debut, Dorgu was played in his more natural left wing back role against Tottenham last time out and so should be expected to do so again in this game. That should see him directly opposing Jake O’Brien who is normally a centre back and so playing out of position.

O’Brien has made fouls against both Bournemouth and Tottenham in this role and with Dorgu up against him, he looks far too generously priced to do so again here. We’ll play it safe this week as O’Brien can sometimes tuck in as a third centre back, however, the 4/1 on offer him to make two fouls is a price I expect we’re unlikely to get again for an opposition right back against the Dane and so I wouldn’t put anyone off backing that too.
