England vs Senegal Preview
The Three Lions were lambasted by match-going fans and the media alike for their dismal display in Barcelona against Espanyol, with Harry Kane’s goal the only difference between the sides. Thomas Tuchel was experimental in his selection for his third game but is expected to go nearer to full strength on Tuesday.
Senegal extended their unbeaten run to 21 matches after a draw away at Ireland thanks to an Ismalia Sarr goal off the bench in the second half. Despite this, Pape Thiaw’s talented squad are in a precarious position in their World Cup qualifying group, with Sudan on their tail.
England vs Senegal Betting Tips
Thomas Tuchel has a 100% record as England manager after 2-0, 3-0 and 1-0 wins over Albania, Latvia and Andorra respectively. However, these results are to be expected against footballing minnows, with all three performances being rightly scrutinised by the media.
The Three Lions are now on a run of five straight wins without conceding, but Tuchel faces his toughest test on Tuesday against Senegal. Despite it being a friendly, Les Lions de la Teranga provide stern opposition, ranking 19th in the FIFA world rankings.
Senegal are unbeaten in 21 games - a run stretching back to 2023. They have conceded just five goals in this time, proving hard to beat. However, the main gripe of the Senegalese team has been their lack of attacking threat, in particular away from home.
While they boasted a 100% away record from their three AFCON qualification games, Senegal scored just once at Burkina Faso (ranked 64th), Burundi (ranked 140th) and Malawi (ranked 132nd). This has been the case in their ongoing World Cup Qualification campaign, blanking away at Togo and Sudan, while scraping past 110th ranked Mauritania by just one goal.
England should be a different kettle of fish compared to their opponents on the continent and Senegal may struggle to break down a resolute Three Lions side.
Ismaila Sarr had an impact off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Ireland, scoring with seven minutes left in the game. It continues a rich vein of form for the Crystal Palace star who registered 19 goal contributions in his debut campaign. The 27-year-old is averaging 2.05 shots per 90 domestically, having at least one shot in nine of his last ten games.
Krepin Diatta started his career as a winger but has since been moved to right back for club and country, in just 496 Ligue 1 minutes this season, he has picked up three yellow cards from 14 fouls. Last season he averaged 1.36 fouls per 90, as well as making two fouls in 63 minutes against Ireland.
England are expected to field a left-hand side of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Anthony Gordon. Lewis-Skelly was fouled twice in both previous England appearances, drawing 3.07 fouls per 90 domestically. Gordon draws 2.39 fouls per 90 for Newcastle.
