Meanwhile, three-time winners Argentina are seeking to reach back-to-back finals following their success four years ago in Qatar.

The defending champions waltzed through the group stages but have found life difficult in the knockout rounds, where they needed extra-time to edge past both Cape Verde and Switzerland, plus a dramatic late comeback in between to overcome Egypt.

England are the narrowest of favourites at 13/8, Argentina are available at 2/1, as is a draw (all in 90 minutes.

England will be without Jarell Quansah (suspended) and Jordan Henderson (injured).

Boss Thomas Tuchel will once have a big decision to make at right-back. Ezri Konsa will hope to retain his place there, but other options include Reece James and Djed Spence.

Declan Rice is expected to start in midfield, despite coming off at half-time against Norway, but Noni Madueke is expected to make way for Bukayo Saka on the right wing.
