England Top Goalscorer Odds: Who will star for the Lionesses at the Women's World Cup 2023?

Sarina Wiegman has a series of selection headaches as she weighs up who to start in attack ahead of England’s opener against World Cup debutants Haiti.
England may no longer be able to call upon the services of their record goalscorer Ellen White, while fellow Euro 2022 stars Beth Mead and Fran Kirby are both out injured, yet Wiegman’s World Cup squad still boasts a tremendous amount of attacking talent.
Below, we’ve looked at who could be in her thoughts as we assess the main contenders to finish the tournament as the Top England Goalscorer, complete with each player’s best odds from trusted betting sites.
Rachel Daly: 9/4
In as the pre-tournament favourite in the Top England Goalscorer betting market is Rachel Daly at 9/4 with BetVictor.
Daly heads to the World Cup on the back of a stunning 22 goal haul in the Women’s Super League, which earned her the Golden Boot award ahead of the likes of Khadija Shaw, Sam Kerr, as well as England teammates Beth England and Alessia Russo.
It was an unbelievable achievement for Aston Villa’s Daly, who didn’t have the luxury of playing for one of the league’s top teams.
The versatile Daly’s transformation from a left-back at last summer's Euro 2022 into a lethal striker caught the attention of England boss Wiegman, who has employed Daly as a forward, with the 31-year-old since rewarding her manager’s trust through goals against Luxembourg, Japan, Norway, plus a brace against Italy.
Alessia Russo: 4/1
Rachel Daly’s main challenger for a starting spot is Alessia Russo, who is next in the betting at 4/1.
Russo was an extremely effective super sub at Euro 2022, coming off the bench to score four goals during the tournament. She’s since added three more to take her tally to 11 England goals in 22 games.
Russo hit double figures for Man Utd in the WSL last term and has since made a high-profile switch to Arsenal.
Even if Russo is initially overlooked in favour of Daly, her stunning impact as a substitute last summer means she’s highly likely to get plenty of chances to score in the latter stages of matches.
Georgia Stanway: 6/1
One concrete starter in England's team is box-to-box midfielder Georgia Stanway, who has scored 11 goals for her country since April 2022.
6/1 to top score for England at the World Cup, the Bayern Munich star is definitely one to ponder given her goal record and the fact that she's her country's penalty taker, with five of her last seven England goals from the spot.
England are expected to dominate Group D meaning Stanway - who scored eight goals in qualifying for the World Cup - is likely to have ample opportunity to enhance her goal count, from open play and the penalty spot.
Ella Toone: 8/1
Ella Toone has scored a number of important goals for England, including the openers in the Euro 2022 Final and in the famous victory over Brazil to win the first Women's Finalissima.
Like her best buddy Alessia Russo, Toone was predominantly used as a substitute last summer, however, she's since become a staple of a high-quality midfield three alongside Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh.
Toone, who averages a goal every other game for the Lionesses (16 in 32), is the most attack-minded of the trio and netted 10 goals during qualifying - second only to Beth Mead in England's ranks - while her ability to find the back of the net in big matches makes her a price to consider at 8/1.
Lauren Hemp: 9/1
Wiegman has tough decisions to make when it comes to the No.9 and right-sided forward roles, however, over on the left you'll find Lauren Hemp.
The 9/1-priced winger bamboozles defenders with her movement, trickery, and eye for goal; netting seven goals during the qualification period.
Hemp would then score the opening goal in England's impressive win against the United States last October.
Selected Others
England's assortment of attacking options means there are plenty of other names worth considering at big prices.
Described as a "cheat code" by Leah Williamson, Lauren James (9/1) excites whenever she gets hold of the ball through her pace, power, and panache. James made her Lionesses debut in September and has since gone on to play a total of 11 games for her country, scoring once. Her impressive displays for WSL winners Chelsea combined with her swift accumulation of England caps in 2023 means that she's highly likely to get the nod on the right-hand side of the front three.
England's Euro 2022 Final hero Chloe Kelly is definitely one to ponder at 10/1. Kelly may not be a guaranteed starter but when she plays she always seems to impress, reflected in a return of four goals in her last seven games for England.
Further afield you'll find striker Beth England who scored eight goals in qualifying. The striker will be determined to feature in this tournament after she was an unused substitute at Euro 2022, although Rachel Daly and Alessia Russo appear to be ahead of her in the pecking order right now.
England has, however, put her name into the frame with an impressive return of 14 WSL goals last season - only Daly and Khadija Shaw netted more times - scoring 12 goals in 12 games for Spurs following her January switch from Chelsea.
