England vs. Australia In-Play Odds: Day 3 Tips for the Second Ashes Test

Day 3 of the Second Ashes Test takes place on Friday, with our man Matt Banks checking in on the latest odds, complete with his best two bets for Friday's action.
England vs Australia Day 3 Tips
It looks like we’re in for another historic Test match at the home of cricket, with things being on an absolute knife edge after two days of the Second Test.
England’s odds to win this game had got as big at 10/1 at one point when Steve Smith and Travis Head were punishing a lacklustre England, but as this team has so often done under Ben Stokes, they clawed it back.
On Thursday, England took the remaining five Australian wickets for just 77 and then began plundering runs off the vaunted Australian attack to reach 188-1 and looked in absolute control.
Then came one of the most incredible hours of Test cricket you will ever see. Australia decided to go with a short-ball barrage and England fell into the trap three times. Ollie Pope, Ben Duckett and Joe Root all got out hooking the short ball and let Australia back in to the game, meaning the day ended with England 278-4, 138 runs behind the Aussies.
England vs Australia Second Test Odds
Despite their brain fade-filled hour yesterday, England have wrestled back control of the game and are favourites with the bookies, with odds of evens at most bookmakers, while Australia are 13/8.
With Harry Brrok and Ben Stokes at the crease, England will be looking to get a first-innings lead and then put pressure on the Australian top order.
The draw is at 9/2, but with the weather set fair for the next three days, it’s hard to imagine a team run by Ben Stokes drawing any game in which they are chasing a total on the final day - either they will get the runs or collapse - no in between.
An extremely important moment in the game yesterday (Thursday) was Nathan Lyon going off with a calf injury that looked like it had ended his game, and possibly his whole Ashes tour.
This means Australia will be without their talismanic spinner in the fourth innings when he is so dangerous, which is why the bookies have so much faith in England winning this game.
There’s still value at evens, and we’re backing England to win this game from here and level up the series 1-1 heading into the third Test at Headingley
In our betting preview for this game, we tipped Harry Brook to win man-of-the-match and we’re sticking with the young Yorkshireman.
He rode his luck a little yesterday, surviving multiple near misses on his way to 45, but still showed why he is so highly rated.
These odds have been boosted from 13/8 and we’re backing Brook to go big this morning and go past 100 for England.
5/6 on under 463.5 England First Innings Runs represents great value here for a few reasons.
England are still a long way away from that total and proved yesterday that they are not immune to losing wickets in clusters, and Ben Stokes loves to declare to put pressure on the opposition.
Even if England do go past Australia’s total of 416, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him call his boys in shortly after and have a bowl at Australia.
